Chris Housman recently released the music video for his catchy track, “Laid Back.” The song, written by Housman with Emily Kroll, and Christian Wood, appears on his debut album, Blueneck.

The country singer lets his baritone vocals soar among the string of breezy instrumentals and carefree lyrics that encourage listeners to “put the phones down, turn the dial up” on some summertime fun. The tune acts as the perfect soundtrack for the days that consist of nothing but good vibes amid the heat of the sunshine.

“I love Country music and feel-good beats, and ‘Laid Back’ encapsulates both of those to me,” Housman shared of the tune. “I wanted to write a song reminiscent of those quintessential drinkin’ and sunnin’ songs you’d have on repeat on the boat on a hot summer day.”

Directed by Ford Fairchild and produced by Rebecca Adler, the new video premiered on YouTube and was accompanied by a live Q&A session hosted by Housman. The clip features the rising star and fellow queer country artists Brooke Eden and Adam Mac at Percy Priest Lake enjoying a relaxed day of fishing and hanging out on the water.

“Filming the video for ‘Laid Back’ was exactly that…spending the day on the water having a great time with great friends. One of my favorite things to do,” Housman said while reflecting on the making of the new video. “We borrowed Adam and his fiancé Lee’s boat nicknamed ‘She Ain’t Fancy But She Floats’ – an appropriately named vessel for a song about making the perfect lake day out of a little. I grew up loving Country summer songs, and I hope the video shows that beer, boats and fishing are for queer people too!”

As an openly gay country singer/songwriter, the Kansas native strives to unite his passions for country music and the queer community to create a place of love and acceptance on his critically-acclaimed album, Blueneck. The project features 13 tracks, all co-written by Housman, and instantly resonated with fans. The title track went viral on TikTok upon its release, thus taking the independent artist from 72 followers to hundreds of thousands overnight and reaching the No.1 spot on the iTunes country chart. For Housman, the fan’s overwhelmingly positive response is what makes it all worth it.

“I see a lot of people out there who grew up loving country music, but gravitated away from it because they didn’t feel welcome there anymore,” shared Housman. “When those people tell me I helped them finally feel seen in the genre…that’s already living the dream as far as I’m concerned.”

The album features other previously released singles like “Bible Belt,” a track on religious trauma, and the country ballad “Guilty As Sin,” which comes to life in a music video that has been dubbed “defiantly gay” by Queerty and amassed 350,000 views in just three weeks.
