Lainey Wilson takes fans on a whimsical journey in the new music video for her current single, “Somewhere Over Laredo.”

Drawing inspiration from the timeless film, The Wizard of Oz, the TK McKamy directed video blends dreamlike visuals with Wilson’s signature storytelling, while offering a creative twist on her classic country sound.

The video opens with the female powerhouse boarding a plane to South California with her guitar in tow and sipping on drink that leads her to fall into a dream-like state as she reflects on a past love. One minute, she tips her seat back in an effort to enjoy some much-needed rest and relaxation and the next Lainey Wilson finds herself falling through cotton-candy-colored sky and landing in a bed far away from home.

Wilson creates her own take on Dorothy’s visit to the land of Oz, with hers involving a search for a love that first blossomed on the banks of the Rio Grande. In the next scene, she’s seen hitchhiking down the western version on a yellow brick road with her French bulldog, Hippie Mae, by her side before continuing her journey in a pickup truck and on horseback.

The video concludes with the Louisiana native landing back in the bed seated in the middle of a field when suddenly a mysterious cowboy hand emerges to lure her away from her lucid dream. As the turbulence from the plane landing snaps her back to reality, the line between what was a dream and what was the truth remains blurred.

From start to finish, the visuals are cinematic, a little trippy, and soaked in nostalgia, all while staying grounded in Lainey Wilson’s small-town roots. The video effortlessly brings the song’s vivid storytelling to life as the country star uses her award-winning vocals to unpack the moment she learns her rodeo romance was always meant to drift apart in the end. Along the way, she tips her hat not just to the Lone Star State, but to all small towns across the country.

“Somewhere over Laredo/ Dreaming about those rodeo nights/ Laid there on the banks of the Rio/ New silver buckle on your jeans next to mine/ Couple wrong for each other, lone star-crossed lovers/ Born to get gone from the get-go/ But you’re on my mind every time I’m chasing this neon rainbow/ Somewhere over Laredo,” she sings on the chorus.

Whirlwind Deluxe Dropping August 22

Both the song and the new music video mark a new chapter for Lainey Wilson as continues to push creative boundaries. “Somewhere Over Laredo” serves as the latest single from the deluxe edition of her Whirlwind album, set to drop August 22 and has become the biggest streaming debut of her career. It was the most added song at country radio upon impact and garnered over 1.16 million streams across platforms in its first 24 hours.

In addition to Whirlwind’s original 14 songs, the extended version will include five new tracks: “Somewhere Over Laredo,” “Bell Bottoms Up,” “King Ranch, King George, King James,” “Yesterday, All Day, Every Day” and “Peace, Love, and Cowboys.”’

Lainey Wilson is also in the midst of her nearly sold-out Whirlwind World Tour, which includes stops at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, Austin’s Moody Center and Denver’s Ball Arena and more.

The remainder of the tour follow the first international leg that saw Wilson performing a completely sold-out run across the U.K and Europe earlier this year.
