A few years ago, fans saw actors Nick McNeil and his on-screen ex, Katie Cronin, play the leads in Luke Combs‘ “Hurricane” music video. Viewers saw them reconnect in the beginning and fall apart again in the end. But the story doesn’t end there because almost five years later, in Combs’ latest music video for “Cold As You,” McNeil and Cronin are back once again. Hopefully this time, their characters will have a better outcome.

The video opens with flashbacks of the messy relationship that was seen in the previous “Hurricane” video. McNeil glances over at the jukebox and sure enough, Cronin comes walking back into his life, but this time, she’s starts off in another mans arms.

As Combs’ voice is heard throughout the background, coming from the retro television in the diner, McNeil reflects on where they left off in their relationship and all the pain Cronin has caused him. It doesn’t take long for Cronin to saunter over to him, bringing out her most flirtatious smile. But this time, McNeil doesn’t fall for it. As a result of his rejection, it seems as though both partners ended up finding what they were looking for in the wrong places.

Although it has been almost five years since “Hurricane” was released, it feels like things could pick up right where they left off with the couple’s not-so love story.

In addition to these characters, Combs also references to other past videos as well as elements of his real life. Combs’ mom, Rhonda, made her own appearance in the music video. She was seen working as a waitress in the diner and even gave some advice to the lead male, McNeil.

Fans will notice that the secret bar seen in the music video is Whiskey River Saloon, which belongs to Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Some viewers even believe that the superstar tipped off fans by revealing his new album release date in the clip.

The video, directed by TA Films, took place in Boone, North Carolina, where Combs attended Appalachian State University.

“The team at TA Films did an incredible job on this one,” Combs shared in a recent release. “My team and I are always keeping the fans in mind with everything we do and the fact that we were able to implement so many ‘easter eggs,’ including characters from my past music videos, was really cool. I hope y’all enjoy it as much as we do.”

“Cold As You” was co-written by Combs alongside Randy Montana, Shane Minor and Jonathan Singleton. This song is expected to the the final single from Combs’ What You See Ain’t Always What You Get deluxe album.
