Meet Priscilla Block. Her song “Thick Thighs” caught the attention of millions thanks to the popular social media app TikTok and her fanbase has grown exponentially seemingly overnight. But who is Priscilla Block and why should she be on your radar? Here’s what you need to know.
Drawing comparisons to the likes of Miranda Lambert, Block’s music embodies everything there is to love about country music: honesty, storytelling and emotion.
Exuding confidence, “Thick Thighs” is an unapologetic anthem about women embracing their bodies, no matter their shape or size. And it’s totally relatable.
“I can’t be the only one who likes extra fries over exercise/ I never eat the produce that I buy, so why even try/ You can’t spell diet without die/ I’ve been eating carbs since ’95/ And I’ve heard thick thighs save lives,” she sings on the chorus.
In an effort to show fans a different side of her personality, the up-and-coming singer shared “Just About Over You,” with fans this week. The emotional song about the aftermath of a breakup shot to the No.1 spot on the all-genre iTunes chart on Wednesday (Aug. 5), surpassing superstars such as Billie Eilish, Harry Styles and Dan + Shay.
The heartfelt was inspired by her personal life and she’s thrilled that fans are resonating with it.
“This is a song I’ve wanted to write for a long time. It’s real life,” she tells Country Now. “I’ve been through a time when I thought that I was over somebody and then you see them or their mom reaches out to you. Anything that sets you back a little bit. I think everyone can relate in some way.”
The immediate success of “Just About Over You” is something Block can’t seem to wrap her head around.
“I’m still crying. It’s honestly overwhelming,” she admits. “I’m really, really thankful. I don’t think I’ve ever charted on iTunes, ever, so I’m feeling extremely grateful.”
With fans flocking to hear her music without a major label backing, it’s only a matter of time before a label scoops her up.
