Trevon Dawson once again tapped into his small-town upbringing and love for traditional country music to perform Brooks & Dunn’s “Red Dirt Road” during The Voice Knockouts on Monday, March 31.
The 17-year-old has made his way through the competition as part of Adam Levine’s team. He advanced to the Knockouts after winning the Battle Rounds against his competitor and duet partner, Tyler Kae.

With his confidence growing stronger each week, Dawson gave his all to his most recent performance. He donned his signature cowboy hat and had the coaches smiling from ear to ear while letting his twangy vocals soar across the classic country tune.
The live audience danced and clapped along to the beat, just as Dawson encouraged them to do, proving that his stage presence is absolutely electric. He continued to lean into the song’s nostalgia, delivering it with an intensity that made listeners hang onto every word.
“It’s where I drank my first beer/ It’s where I found Jesus/ Where I wrecked my first car/ I tore it all to pieces/ I learned the path to Heaven/ Is full of sinners and believers/ Learned that happiness on Earth/ Ain’t just for high achievers/ I’ve learned, I’ve come to know/ There’s life at both ends of that red dirt road,” he sang on the chorus.
This week, the Mississippi native competed against his teammate Ethan Eckenroad, who showed off his vocal range with Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.” Both aspiring artists left it all on the stage and earned standing ovations for their performances. However, Dawson’s time in the competition came to an end as Eckenroad was crowd the winner fo the Knockouts.
After the show aired, the young singer commended Eckenroad on his win, noting that “it was a pleasure being able to get to know you and work with you.” He went on to thank his followers for all their “love and support” and stayed positive in his hopes of keeping the momentum going with his career. At the end of his message, he expressed his hope that the Grand Ole Opry will invite him to perform on the coveted stage within the next few years.

Trevon Dawson has started his journey on The Voice when he won over the coaches with his cover of Bailey Zimmerman’s “Religiously” during the Blind Auditions. Coaches Ballerini, Michael Bublé, and John Legend had already filled their teams, meaning his fate was left in the hands of Levine.
The coach waited a few moments before turning his chair and claiming the aspiring country act for his team.

Dawson was clearly overcome with joy as well as nerves as he wrapped up his initial performance. Michael Bublé noticed the stress he was feeling and decided to give him a hug as an act of encouragement.
Levine praised Dawson’s manners, his ability to connect with his audience and his unique vocals saying it “cuts like a knife.”
Even though Trevon Dawson’s time on The Voice has come to an end, fans can continue to watch the journeys of his fellow contestants unfold on Monday nights when the show airs at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Episodes are also available for streaming the next day on Peacock.
