Bella Emry’s Hollywood Week performance was one for the books. The 22-year-old from Bend, OR, may be used to spending her days as a server and office administrator, but when she hits the stage it’s clear that music is her true calling.

Fans first got a taste of Bella’s talent when she took a leap of faith and traveled to Music City to audition for Season 24 of the singing competition show. Tonight, her American Idol journey continues with a powerhouse rendition of Brandi Carlile’s “The Joke.”

From the first note, her authenticity was impossible to ignore. Even Luke Bryan was quick to let out an impressed “Wow,” as she brought every ounce of emotion through the empowering story. Her vocal control and dynamic range highlighted both the gentleness and the strength in the song, which speaks directly to anyone who has felt underestimated or overlooked and offers the reminder to let your true self shine, no matter what anyone else says.

By the end, the standing ovation made it clear that Bella had completely captivated the judges.

Luke Bryan had nothing but positive things to say about her sound and the way she presents herself as a performer.

He stated, “I’m seeing authenticity. I’m seeing style. I’m seeing uniqueness and that’s what it takes to do well in this competition.”

Lionel Richie later added, “That was solid. Solid.”

When Bella learned she’d made it into the coveted “Golden Room,” she couldn’t hide her excitement. “I just got a ‘yes.’ That’s crazy,” she said, taking in the reality of moving one step closer to the Top 30.

As the day moved forward, the nervousness among the contestants grew, knowing that half of them were going home. Reflecting on the stress of Hollywood Week, she noted, “Everyone’s fighting for their lives in here. It’s chaos.”

Luckily, those fears she had been holding onto all day were finally released when the judges called Bella Emry’s name, revealing her heard work had earned a spot in the Top 30. This means that she will be heading to Hawaii, where a whole new set of twists will be waiting for the competitors.

The show’s host Ryan Seacrest explained that for the first time ever, they will each take part in the “Ohana Round,” set at Disney’s Aulani Resort. Next Monday night viewers will see the singers fight for their chance to make it into the Top 20. They will perform for their own families, industry tastemakers and their fellow hopefuls, who will each vote to decide who deserves to move forward.

All of the talent and drama will continue next Monday night (March 9) when American Idol airs at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Episodes are also available to stream the following day on Hulu.
