Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose are married! The couple surprised fans on Wednesday morning (Oct. 11) with the announcement of their nuptials, which took place yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Alongside a gallery of stunning photos, Cyrus and Firerose wrote, “10/10/23 will always be the beautiful, joyous day that our two souls united as one in holy matrimony. It was the most perfect, ethereal celebration of love we could have ever imagined.”
They continued, “For both of us to hear the preacher say, ‘Billy Ray and Firerose Cyrus… I now pronounce you husband and wife’ that was the sacred moment our new forever began. Long Live Love! ❤️♾️”
Wedding Announcement
For the ceremony, Firerose donned a white dress with a lace bodice from Lauras Boutique & Bridal. She kept her look classic and simple with minimal jewelry. Billy Ray sported attire by Versace and John Varvatos. They added a touch of color to the celebration with stunning fall-colored florals designed by Kelsey Gray Events.
Engaged In 2022
The pair first announced their engagement in November of 2022. Cyrus, 62, and Firerose, 34, confirmed the news to PEOPLE, revealing that they were engaged in August.
“She’s the real deal,” Cyrus exclaimed while confirming their engagement to the outlet.
The low-key proposal took place in August of 2022 after Firerose moved into Cyrus’ house on his Franklin, Tennessee Farm. According to the couple, the proposal was different from any other as there was no ring or bending of the knee involved.
Cyrus simply popped the question to the 34-year-old in his home and she quickly said “yes.”
“Billy looked at me and said, ‘Do you, do you wanna marry me?’ And I was just like, ‘Of course I do. I love you,’ ” Firerose explained to the outlet. “He said, ‘I love you. I wanna make this official. I wanna be with you forever.’”
Firerose later picked out and designed her own custom diamond ring.
“I’ve spent my life worried about things that are beyond my control. But at this spot in my life, knowing that all you really have is the happiness that you feel inside your mind and your heart…” Cyrus stopped and began to cry. “Finding Firerose and getting engaged and then losing my mom [a few weeks later]—see? The teeter-totter will not stay in the middle, but having somebody to ride it out with now—that’s giving me a little more balance.”
How They Met
While confirming their engagement to People, Cyrus also revealed that the pair originally met on the set of the Disney Channel series, Hannah Montana, many years ago. Cyrus’ daughter, Miley Cyrus, starred in the hit show.
“I loved doing that show,” Cyrus recalled before explaining, “There’s a couple old pine trees on the lot that look like Tennessee. [My dog] Tex and I would go out there in the middle of the day and he’d take care of his business and we’d stretch and I’d think how much I missed Tennessee. On that given day, Firerose came out of the front door. There was almost a moment of, I don’t know, recognition. I was like, ‘This girl’s a star.’”
Since meeting, the pair formed a friendship and kept in touch with each other.
“Our friendship was so solid over the years,” Cyrus added. “She plays all of her own instruments and writes her own songs. We began sharing music, and it just evolved.”
The last few years were difficult for Cyrus as he lost his mother, Ruth, and was also going through divorce from his now ex-wife Tish Cyrus, who he was married to for 28 years and is the mother to four of his children, daughters Miley, Brandi, and Noah as well as sons Trace and Braison. Tish filed for divorce in Williamson County, Tennessee in April of 2022. According to PEOPLE, Tish cited “irreconcilable differences” when filing. This marked the third time the couple had separated during their marriage.
During this difficult time, Firerose shared that he looked to her for emotional support and they became even closer.
“Billy confided in me a lot of what was going on in his life. I was just the best friend I could possibly be, supporting him,” Firerose said.
