Blake Shelton is all about the country life and he sang it loud and proud with a performance of his latest single, “Come Back As A Country Boy,” during New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash.
The superstar took the stage at Nashville’s Ole Red on Lower Broadway to ring in the new year.

“So when I die, I wanna come back as a country boy/ No, there ain’t no better life if you ask me/ If my neck don’t come out red, then Lord, just keep me dead/ ‘Cause a country boy is all that I know how to be,” he sings.
Shelton released the music video for the song in November, which finds the Oklahoma native bringing the song to life as he rises out of fire ignited by an asteroid that lands on Earth from outer space.
Rising from the fiery ashes, Shelton is reincarnated with a beer in his hand as he declares, “When I die, I wanna come back as a country boy.”
Co-written by Michael HARDY, Josh Thompson and Jordan Schmidt, “Come Back As A Country Boy,” is a song that details the virtues of living the country lifestyle and is the first of several new tracks on the country hitmaker’s upcoming deluxe edition of Body Language.
“I think this song is an anthem for everyday hardworking country people out there,” Shelton previously shared in a press release. “We have so much pride in who we are and what we do that, if we ever died and got the chance to live life over again, we probably wouldn’t do it if we couldn’t be country.”
“Come Back As A Country Boy” was the first-released track from the deluxe edition of Body Language, which has already yielded Platinum-certified No. 1 smash “Happy Anywhere” with Gwen Stefani.
Body Language Deluxe is available now.
Later in the show, Shelton also performed “God’s Country.”
The inaugural New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash also featured performances from Fisk Jubilee Singers, Lady A, Ingrid Andress, BRELAND, King Calaway, Riley Green, Chris Janson, Jon Pardi, Carly Pearce, Lainey Wilson, Jason Aldean, Jimmie Allen, Kelsea Ballerini, Gabby Barrett, Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Darius Rucker, Cole Swindell and more.
Sam Hunt, Elle King and Zac Brown Band were also set to perform during the concert event, however they will no longer be participating.
The five-hour celebration also included once-in-a-lifetime collaborations, performances of chart-topping hits and covers of some of the most iconic songs in country music.
Co-hosted by Radio and TV personality Bobby Bones and Entertainment Tonight’s Rachel Smith, the star-studded New Year’s Eve special aired live from Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday, December 31 (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT, 11:30 PM-1:30 AM, ET/PT), on CBS Television Network.
The show was also available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
