Watch Blake Shelton ‘Come Back As A Country Boy’ After Asteroid Strikes Earth In New Music Video

10-time CMA Awards winner Blake Shelton just released a music video for his latest single, “Come Back As A Country Boy,” and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen. 

The superstar tapped into computer-generated imagery to bring the song to life as he rises out of fire ignited by an asteroid that lands on Earth from outer space. 

Rising from the fiery ashes, Shelton is reincarnated with a beer in his hand as he declares, “When I die, I wanna come back as a country boy.” 

The video goes on to show the longtime The Voice coach around his Oklahoma property, showcasing his country lifestyle while doing things that country boys do best.

“This video is an adventure,” Shelton said. “But at the end of the day it’s just me, my dog and my truck… and, of course, a beer. It’s me being a country boy in my favorite place on Earth.”

The video made its debut across CMT platforms, including Viacom CBS billboards in New York City’s Times Square, just hours before Shelton is set for the live TV debut of the song at the 55th Annual CMA Awards. 

“Come Back As A Country Boy” is Shelton’s latest single and will appear on the forthcoming deluxe version of his Body Language album, due out on December 3. 

The song was written by Michael Hardy, Josh Thompson and Jordan Schmidt. 

“I think this song is an anthem for everyday hardworking country people out there,” Shelton previously shared in a statement. “We have so much pride in who we are and what we do that, if we ever died and got the chance to live life over again, we probably wouldn’t do it if we couldn’t be country.”

The video came just after Shelton released “We Can Reach The Stars,” the romantic track he co-wrote for his wedding vows when he married Gwen Stefani over the summer. 

“Gwen and I decided we were going to write our own vows for the wedding, but I decided to surprise her by writing a song instead,” Shelton shared in a statement. “I reached out to my buddy Craig Wiseman, who is a world-class songwriter, to help me write and structure something that would stand the test of time. I’m really proud of ‘We Can Reach The Stars’ and I’m really honored to be with her. That’s why we got married in the first place. That’s why we wear rings… because we want everyone to know. I’m thrilled to share this song with the world.”

Stefani reacted to the release of the song, writing, “yep.. this happened to me ” alongside the hashtag “my song.”
