Brantley Gilbert was once a self-proclaimed Scrooge around the holiday season, but after marrying his longtime love, Amber, and welcoming two children into their family, the one-time Grinch has learned to embrace the spirit holiday season.
Even if he tried it would difficult to avoid, however, as Gilbert’s wife is a bit obsessed with Christmas and everything that goes along with it.
“Our house looks like the friggin’ North Pole man – early. I mean, literally, they take Thanksgiving dinner off the table and right at that moment, like, the centerpiece is like a little Christmas tree,” he says. “She’s got a Christmas tree in every room… literally every room in the house. Our dog has a Christmas tree. Our little boy has a Christmas tree. We got a Christmas tree in the bedroom. They’re everywhere.”
While the country rocker says that “the true meaning of Christmas has always been very, very important to me,” he never really bought into the “hoopla” surrounding the Christmas season.
“But I can honestly say my wife has changed that in me,” he admits. “Christmas is her favorite holiday so I’m coming around. I’m not so much Scrooge anymore, I don’t guess. I’m working my way out of the Scrooge role.”
Gilbert and his wife recently volunteered their time at a Salvation Army event benefiting the organization’s Forgotten Angels program. At the event, the couple helped collect toys for children in need this holiday season.
“We may have given a few toys to help some kids have a better Christmas, but what it gave us in return is so much greater,” Gilbert wrote on Instagram after the toy drive. “Happy holidays y’all.”
Gilbert will have plenty of time to spend with his family over the holidays. His next scheduled tour date isn’t until January 23 when he launches his 2020 Fire’t Up Tour.
