Chris Stapleton taps actor Andre Royo, best known for his roles in The Wire and Empire, to capture the vision of his passionate tune, “Think I’m In Love With You,” in the official music video.
Directed by Running Bear, choreographed by JaQuel Knight and produced by Strange Arcade, the video offers a cinematic depiction of the story that seemingly centers around a past relationship. In the opening clip, viewers watch as Royo takes on the role of a man who has passed away and finds himself watching as his family members lay him to rest. His soul appears to rise from his body, leading him to realize he has entered into a heaven-like state.
Meanwhile, Stapleton’s powerful voice can be heard delivering the first verse, which involves him thinking back to a former love and wondering if letting each other go was really the right thing to do.
“Baby, do you ever wonder/ Whatever happened way back when/ Or if I’ll see you again/ And maybe if you ever wonder/ Aw, you might wish things could change,” he sings.
Royo begins to find peace in his new reality as he changes his look from pajamas to a bright red and white Western ensemble. He grooves down the street to the steady beat, following his own hearse to the funeral home, and dances on top of the roof as his family members enter inside the doors from below.
Upon reaching the chorus, Stapleton belts out his proclamation of love for this former partner, stating that he made a mistake in the past and now realizes just how much he needs her in his life.
“I think I’m in love with you/ I didn’t know it at the time/ I know what I want to do/ It’s making me lose my mind/ I thought about thinking it through/ And every time I do I find/ I wanna make your dreams come true/ I think I’m in love with you,” he sings.
The video suddenly shifts as memories of the actor and his love start to flash across the screen, showcasing how much romance was felt between them back in the day. A smile then creeps on his face as he realizes that he’s about to be reunited with his other half. This moment finally comes in the setting of a nostalgic dance floor lit by the flashes of a disco ball and bright colorful lights around the stage. The couple dance the night away as the song slowly fades out.
Stapleton makes his first appearance in the final clip of the music video. He appears to be working as a grave digger, responsible for burying the man next to his beloved wife. A dedication to Stapleton’s “Poppop & Mommom” flashes across the screen before revealing the remaining credits.
“Think I’m In Love With You” was penned by Stapleton with Dave Cobb and the country superstar’s wife, Morgane Stapleton, all of whom also served as producers on 2023’s critically acclaimed Higher album.
The project has served as the perfect soundtrack to the 10x GRAMMY, 16x CMA, and 19x ACM Award-winner current All-American Road Show tour, which will continue through 2025 with sold-out dates across the U.K., New Zealand, and Australia.
