Texas native and Platinum-selling superstar Cody Johnson made history on Monday evening (Feb. 28) when he became the third artist ever to sell out the opening night of RodeoHouston, following records set in previous years by Garth Brooks (2018) and George Strait (2017).
Johnson played to a sold-out crowd of 70,554 fans, kicking off the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s 90th anniversary season (following a forced hiatus in 2020 and 2021).
The electrifying entertainer marked his fourth appearance on the RodeoHouston stage with Monday’s performance.

“Last night was a historical night for myself as well as Rodeo Houston; sold-out opening day!!” Johnson shared the following day. “I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and showing support to me and my band. CAN’T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR!”
“What better way to open the 2022 RODEOHOUSTON and kick off the 90th anniversary of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo than with Cody Johnson,” added Chris Boleman, president and CEO of the Rodeo. “Cody has quickly become a RODEOHOUSTON fan favorite, ever since he first stepped onto the RODEOHOUSTON stage in 2017. His 2022 opening night performance puts him in great company with George Strait and Garth Brooks.”

Johnson helped kick off the 90th Annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on Saturday morning (Feb. 26) in downtown Houston by participating in the Downtown Rodeo Parade as the 2022 Parade Grand Marshal.
The singer/songwriter has become the sound of the Rodeo season with his performance of “Welcome to the Show,” the official song of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
The 2022 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo runs through Sunday, March 20. Tickets start at just $20 at rodeohouston.com.
The superstar continues to make his way up the charts with his powerful single, “Til You Can’t” from his critically acclaimed major-label sophomore release, Human The Double Album.
