Rising country artist and Country Now Artist to Watch Cole Goodwin delivers a charming and somewhat humorous story with his just-released new track, “Howdy.”
The song captures the moment a guy spots a woman who seems completely out of his league and works up the nerve to approach her with a bold (and slightly cheesy!) pickup line. Blending humor with traditional country storytelling and a good ol’ play on words, Goodwin turns a simple barroom encounter into a lighthearted love story about taking a chance and seeing where the night might lead.

“Howdy, do you come here often? Mind if I sit down? How’d you slip through the back door of Heaven? Does the good Lord know you got out? Honey, you’re out of my league/ But we’d make a good team far as I’m concerned/ Howdy, how do I make the whole town wonder/ ‘How’d he wind up with her?’,” he sings on the chorus.
Throughout the song, Goodwin uses a clever play on words, turning “howdy” into “how’d he” in the chorus, tying the pickup line back to the idea of people wondering how he ended up with a girl like her.
Written by Justin Dukes, Davis Loose, Carson Peters, and Ethan Phillips, the song serves as the latest release from Goodwin, following 2025 tracks like “Girlfriend’s Got A Boyfriend,” “Dust On The Dancefloor,” and more.
“This is actually the first song I’ve recorded that I was not a writer on. Four of my good buddies in Nashville, Justin Dukes, Ethan Phillips, Davis Loose, and Carson Peters wrote this song and sent it to me, and I immediately fell in love with it,” Goodwin shares. “This song is so clever and lighthearted. It’s my favorite song in the show to play every night. I love it, the band loves it and most importantly, the fans seem to love it.”
Much like his previous releases, “Howdy” showcases Goodwin’s charm and humor, along with his love for traditional country music. The track has the potential to become the Georgia native’s breakout hit at country radio.
He’s been performing “Howdy” while on tour with Vincent Mason this spring, and the song is quickly becoming a fan favorite during his live shows. It’s also likely to translate well on country radio, especially as the summer months approach and just in time for Goodwin to hit the road with Dierks Bentley on the upcoming Off The Map Tour.

Fans can catch Cole Goodwin performing at Country Now Live in Nashville on March 17 alongside Dustin Lynch, Kayley Green, Kenny Whitmire, Jacob Hackworth, and Graham St. Clair. Proceeds from the show will benefit St. Jude and tickets are available for $25 (plus fees) HERE.
