Dan + Shay’s Dan Smyers and his wife Abby Law first bonded over their love for animals.
The pair realized they had a lot in common after meeting at an animal rescue center in 2013. They struck up a friendship, which soon flourished into a romantic relationship and after about three and a half years of dating, the couple got engaged.
“There are few words to fully convey this feeling of complete happiness,” Law wrote on Instagram after the romantic proposal, which took place November 18, 2016 while the couple was vacationing in Hawaii. “Daniel Smyers, knowing and loving you has been the most rewarding part of my life thus far and continuing our journey together as your wife will be an honor.”
With a wedding planned for summer of the following year, Smyers and Law immediately jumped into wedding planning when they returned from their Hawaiian vacation.
“Trying to juggle [the tour] and wedding planning is a handful but it’s going to be a good year for us,” Smyers told People prior to the wedding.
The couple said “I do” in Nashville, their “favorite place in the world,” on May 13, 2017. They were surrounded by family, friends and their rescue dogs.
“They are the most important bridesmaid and groomsmen,” Smyers previously joked to People.
Smyers’ duo partner, Shay Mooney, was also on hand, acting as a groomsman for the ceremony.
The couple included a fundraiser for Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue as part of their wedding registry.
“We’ve built a life together over the past few years and didn’t really need a lot of stuff, so we included it if someone wants to donate,” Law explained.
Footage from the couple’s picturesque sunset wedding, along with video clips from Mooney’s gorgeous Arkansas wedding, are featured in the duo’s music video for “Speechless.”
