Like a weathered tree that’s stood the test of time, Dierks Bentley has spent over 20 years carving out his place in the country music family and has remained resilient through every bend and break that came his way. With his just-announced 11th studio album, BROKEN BRANCHES, he leans into that musical journey and highlights the outliers of country music, aka the ones who don’t always fit the mold but are still essential to the genre.

Out June 13 via Capitol Records Nashville, the collection of 11 songs will find beauty in the imperfect and often unpredictable characters that Bentley has encountered over the years as he puts his signature sound on full display.

“The country music community has a lot of broken branches in it. That’s why we’re all here,” Bentley explains. “We want to do something a little bit different, and I think everyone sees themselves like that – certainly in country. This is the people’s music and it represents that spirit of individuality so well – it’s just about doing it our own way.”

The Arizona born artist spent months driving the backroads near his home in Tennessee, listening to rough demos with no names attached in order to let the songs speak for themselves. He eventually settled on a collection of tracks that hold deep meaning within the storylines.

Once in the studio, he worked alongside executive producer Mary Hilliard Harrington, producers Jon Randall and Ross Copperman, plus musicians like Charlie Worsham, Jedd Hughes, Rob McNelley and Bryan Sutton. With their help, every track was built from the ground up, starting on acoustic guitar and evolving into whatever felt most right in the moment.

Bentley served as a co-writer on just four tracks while seven came from outside writers, allowing him to tap further into the heart of Nashville’s songwriting community.

“I think that’s what’s special about country – we’re still making music in the studio with our buddies,” Bentley adds. “We’re still getting together and talking about the songs and letting the musicians have a big say. It’s a good team – maybe a little messed up – but that’s the whole idea behind broken branches, so it just works.”

Kicking off BROKEN BRANCHES, Bentley released the hilarious yet heart-pounding, “She Hates Me,” which quickly became the biggest debuting song of his career.

The album is further introduced through the title track, also known as the project’s anchor, with its mood-boosting sound that honors multiple generations of country stars, from the living legend John Anderson and to current hitmaker Riley Green. He also welcomed the collaboration, “Near You (feat. Miranda Lambert),” returns to his bluegrass roots with “Well Well Whiskey,” and brings things full circle with the final track, “Don’t Cry For Me.”
