Drew Baldridge has been watching his heartfelt tune, “She’s Somebody’s Daughter,” work its way up the charts throughout the past year and the moment he’s been eagerly awaiting has finally come. This week, the country star announced that the RIAA certified-GOLD song has officially claimed the No. 1 spot on the Country Aircheck/Mediabase chart and No. 3 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
After 13 years of living and working hard in Nashville, this moment proves that it’s all been worth it. Baldridge shared that he is incredibly proud because this achievement marks a record high on both charts for an independent artist and surpasses the previous record-holder in 2017, Aaron Watson.
Additionally, “She’s Somebody’s Daughter” has cracked the Billboard Hot 100 chart and made history on Billboard Country Airplay by becoming the first self-released song in the chart’s 34-year history to reach the Top 5. It has also racked up more than 1.1 billion streams across streaming and social media platforms.
“I’m overwhelmed and incredibly honored that ‘She’s Somebody’s Daughter’ has reached No. 1. on country radio,” Baldridge shared in a statement. “I wrote this song six years ago and though I always dreamed we would get to this point, it felt so far away.”
Baldridge released the song just before his career came to a sudden halt as the label he had been signed to – Cold River Records – announced that it was closing its doors after 15 years in business. Despite this confusing and challenging time, Baldridge knew this song was special and needed to reach a larger audience.
“She’s Somebody’s Daughter” continued to slowly rise in popularity on streaming platforms and then really took off when he posted a video of his wife, Katherine Kraus, and her father dancing to the wedding version he recorded for their nuptials. After seeing how much the heartfelt message resonated with fans, Baldridge took matters into his own hands and assembled a radio team to get it onto the airwaves. Seven months after impacting country radio, Baldridge earned his first Top 40 single.
“In my heart, I knew ‘Daughter’ was special, and just needed the right team to help me share it with country radio and fans everywhere. I am so thankful to everyone who has supported me and believed in me over the years. This is truly the best day,” he continued.
In a new video shared via social media, the Patoka, Illinois native admitted to getting emotional upon learning the milestone news.
“Shed some tears just thinking about the journey of how long it’s taken to get here,” he revealed. “We’ve been in Nashville for 13 years and I felt like everybody was kind of giving up on what we were doing, which is fine, but the whole community country radio, y’all have rallied behind us. And to think now we have the number one song in the whole country, it’s unbelievable.”
