Emily Ann Roberts‘ official music video for the soul-stirring ballad, “Devil Wears Denim,” made its debut on CMT on February 2.
”Devil Wears Denim” is a haunting song that reinforces the empowerment one feels after they acknowledge their worth and choose to move on. It commences by portraying a righteous cowboy donning denim and a Stetson hat, appearing immune to wrongdoing. Nevertheless, the narrator recognizes his true nature and sees beyond his angelic facade.
“I’ve always been captivated by country music’s way of telling a story. When I wrote this song with Autumn and Trent I could see the video playing out in my mind. Working with Leah Steiger to capture the love, betrayal, heartbreak and confession was so inspiring. I hope it takes people on the journey I go on every time I sing the song,” Roberts said in a release.
Brining The Story To Life Through Black & White Scenes
The official music video, directed by Leah Steiger effectively conveys the evocative atmosphere. It emphasizes a compelling visual by showcasing footage entirely in black and white, while also strategically focusing on capturing the perspectives and emotions of both women involved.
Enhancing the eerie narrative, the song’s mysterious lyrics contribute to a sense of depth. Notably, the bridge adds a nuanced refinement, casting a shadowed layer over the central narrative.
‘No one has seen that cowboy since he disappeared / Maybe he just up and rode away / And they won’t find a shovel for a million years / Daddy taught me how to get rid of a snake’ Roberts triumphantly sings.
Debut Album, “Can’t Hide Country”
The CMT premiere comes on the heels of Roberts’ inclusion in the CMT Next Women of Country Class. It also follows the release of her debut album Can’t Hide Country, which was released on September 22.
The full-length project is a blend of traditional country music with modern sensibilities. It’s sincere and honest with real-life stories that are easy to connect with.
Can’t Hide Country stands as a testament to her steadfast dedication to creating authentic country tunes, reflecting her deep roots in East Tennessee.

Roberts will soon hit the road as support for Blake Shelton on his Back to the Honky Tonk Tour. The 17-date trek launches on February 22 in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and will run through March 29 in Wichita, Kansas.
