Emily Ann Roberts is getting creative when it comes to surprising her fans. During a string of recent shows, Roberts has made a tradition out of venturing into the audience incognito and upgrading some lucky fans’ tickets. But her disguises haven’t exactly done the best job of hiding her identity, so she decided to take things up a notch.

Roberts recently performed at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, NY as an opening act on Thomas Rhett’s Soundtrack to Life Tour. Following her set, she filmed a video documenting her approach to going incognito, taking fans along as she got “unready.” She explained that after her previous attempt that she dubbed a “massive failure,” she decided to dress in a way that was completely different from her usual look.

She traded her dazzling stage outfit for gym shoes, blue jean shorts and a denim button-down, removed her hair extensions and tucked her hair beneath a T.N.B. Supply Co. trucker hat. To really try and hide her true identity, the rising star even topped off the look by drawing on a beard.

“Okay, this fit should be a better one,” Roberts noted after changing clothes. “I don’t have time to take my makeup off right now, so we’re just going to draw a beard. I have never drawn a beard on before.”

She joked that she attempted to add some “shadows” by blending her makeup to make the facial hair look a bit more realistic but she admitted “it’s just getting worse.”

“Who is that? That’s not Emily Ann. No one’s going to know,” she added confidently.

Once the entire look was complete Roberts’ bandmate conformed that she had done a good job when he jokingly asked, “Who is this? Who did Chris let in here?”

“Some weirdo from East Tennessee,” she responded hilariously.

Finally, it was time to venture out into the crowd to complete “Operation Ticket Upgrade.” Immediately upon seeing people sat at the very back of the lawn section, Roberts noted, “These people need to be closer.”

She started off strong, handing out tickets to a few unsuspecting fans, but it didn’t take long for her cover to be blown. Eventually, more and more fans started coming up asking for hugs, photos and kindly requesting autographs. She let them know she was in incognito and wondered how she was still getting recognized, even with her altered appearance.

“Ok well I spoke too soon. I’m gonna have to come up with a better disguise,” Roberts admitted at the very end of the video.

Despite her best efforts, it seems Emily Ann Roberts still has a ways to go before she masters the art of going incognito. While her disguise may have failed, “Operation Ticket Upgrade” was still a success as she was able to give some fans a surprise they certainly won’t forget.

The “Laundry” singer still has several more dates supporting Thomas Rhett, with upcoming performances across Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, Texas and more. She’ll remain on the road with Rhett through October before heading overseas to join Cody Johnson for shows across England, the U.K. and Ireland.
