In 2020, Eric Church expanded his business ventures beyond music and co-founded the company Outsiders Spirits with entrepreneur Raj Alva. The first launch to come from his new drink line was the award-winning Whiskey JYPSI Legacy Batch 001 in May of 2023. After seeing great success with their initial launch, Outsiders Spirits is now introducing the brand-new Whiskey JYPSI Explorer Series.
Since its release, Whiskey JYPSI Legacy Batch 001 has won multiple national and international awards, including the Double Gold Medal from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It has also stacked up impressive ratings from the NY International Spirits Competition, the PR%F Awards, and the Beverage Testing Institute.
What To Expect From The New Series
The new Explorer Series is expected to uphold the brand’s mission of combining the highest quality whiskeys and ingredients with “distinctive and exceptional woods from around the globe,” hence the name “Explorer.” The series features mature whiskeys, each aged no less than six years and ranging between 100-107 proof.
Another unique factor revealed by Outsiders co-founder Raj Alva, is that this batch of whiskey will be even more “accessible” that Legacy Batch 001.
“When we started the company, we had a long-term goal of creating the highest quality whiskeys in the world while having a diversity of products to satisfy the palate of a variety of whiskey drinkers,” said Alva. “Our first launch was an ultra-premium product. This next one is going to be more accessible. It’s unique because it’s going to be finished using woods from across the globe. That’s why we called it Explorer.”

The Initial Launch Includes Two Six-Year-Old Bourbons
Explorer’s inaugural release is comprised of two six-year-old bourbons, one being a low rye distilled in Kentucky and prized for its sweetness, while the other is an Indiana high rye that has been selected for its spice. According to a release, this blend features a mash bill of 66% corn, 30% rye and 4% malted barley, which is then slowly reduced to 103 proof and finished using two oak varietals – French Oak (Quercus robur) from France’s famed Forest of Tronçais and American Oak (Quercus alba) from the Appalachian Mountains.
“This is why I wanted to get into the whiskey business,” said Church. “It’s a creative process, an adventure, and a story – like music. And you never know where you’re going ‘til you get the song written or the whiskey is made.”
Much like Church, any whiskey connoisseur will appreciate that these woods were each carefully chosen because they complement the sweetness and spice of the blend while also carrying a rich backstory that ties their origins to their country music roots.

“We only want to make incredible whiskey, and do it our way,” added Outsiders Spirits whiskey maker Ari Sussman. “Part of that is making sure it’s not just a whiskey – it’s a story highlighting the places, cultures and agricultures that are part of our explorations.”
