On Wednesday, August 9, CBS will premiere the highly anticipated new musical series, Superfan, featuring Kelsea Ballerini, Gloria Estefan, Little Big Town, LL COOL J, Pitbull and Shania Twain.
Hosted by Nate Burleson and Keltie Knight, Superfan will showcase six music superstars, who will each crown their biggest fan.
“I want the fans to have this opportunity to shine and to win, but it’s just as much for the artists. I want the artists to have a safe place, like those amazing ‘MTV Unplugged’ sessions that were just like Kurt Cobain in a sweater and he’s just playing for fans and he’s able to look them in the eye and tell a story,” Knight told Associated Press (AP). “That’s the vibe we’re going for.”
Each of the fans featured on the show were handpicked by producers after submitting videos, written essays, and sitting in for Zoom interviews. The fans also had to pass background checks, according to AP.
“It’s really important that we made sure that not only we had our biggest superfans, but that our viewers at home and the families at home could see themselves in these shows,” Knight explained.
The series will kick off with LL COOL J’s most loyal supporters battling it out to be named his biggest fan. Episodes featuring Estefan, Twain, Ballerini, and more will follow.
“It’s an honor. I love doing this kind of stuff,” Ballerini shared of her role on Superfan. “Also, there’s nothing else like this, so there isn’t this kind of stuff. It’s just this.”
