Fans can’t stop talking about Carrie Underwood’s show-stopping performance that aired on Sunday, September 8, as part of the 2024 show opener for NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
Underwood was named the “queen of country and football” by several of the many viewers who watched her make her way from the tour bus to the stage in her glamorous rhinestone mini dress and belt out the newest rendition of the lively theme song, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.”
Performing from the home of her ongoing Las Vegas residency, Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas, the country music superstar combined her authentic country sound with her rocking electric guitar skills to create the ultimate hype-up anthem. The energy was amped up even further with the addition of flashing lights, smoke-filled production and professional NFL dancers, all of which took over the stage as footage of the opposing teams was interlaced into the overall delivery.
Earning High Praise From Fans
It’s safe to say that even the eight-time GRAMMY winner’s 12 consecutive appearance on Sunday Night Football will forever be remembered by fans, which they have proudly expressed across social media.
One user wrote, “My favorite part of SNF! This is Carrie’s best year yet!! 🔥”
“12 years in and she still absolutely crushes it!!!!! Another SNF opening BANGER,” said another.
The compliments continued to flood in with fans saying tings like, “Been waiting for this moment, during all the off season. We’re so back” and “love this years rendition!!! 👏🔥🙌🤘🏻”
“This is extraordinary!! Girl, you’re spectacular 🤍 you’re the reason I watch NFL football. It’s like a party all wrapped up in the opening song! I LOVE IT!”
Some users even noted that although they are not fans of the sport, the still tuned into the network to see Underwood unleash her incredible talent. Others shared their strong belief that she should be eligible for a spot in the NFL Hall of Fame because of her annual contribution that continues to draw in viewers.
“i look forward every to seeing her perform it differently each year 😁 she’s the only part of the football i watch,” an online user admitted.
Although the 2025 halftime show headliner has already been announced as Kendrick Lamar, fans have made it clear that they would have loved to see Underwood take on this highly anticipated performance.
Several individuals left comments like “Can you please do the halftime show” and “Time for the halftime show.”
The glamorous delivery aired as the new opening for primetime’s No. 1 show ahead of the Rams-Lions playoff rematch, which resulted in the Detroit Lions defeating Los Angeles, 26-20, in overtime.
First Live Performance Of The Official Sunday Night Football Theme Song
Prior to this weekend’s kickoff performance, the Oklahoma native performed the official Sunday Night Football theme song live for the first time ever during the annual Concert for Legends show at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. This delivery was historic as Underwood was the first female artist in history to headline the event.
Carrie Underwood has become the well-known voice behind Sunday Night Football, however she wasn’t the first artist to sing for the weekly program. When SNF premiered in 2006, the iconic pop/rock singer P!NK was selected to sing a new version of Joan Jett’s 1988 hit, “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” with the lyrics altered to fit football themes. The following year, Faith Hill took over the role and sang the intro track for several seasons before passing the torch to Underwood in 2013.
The “Denim & Rhinestone” singer’s return NBC’s Sunday Night Football marks the start of a very busy few months ahead. She has several more dates of her Las Vegas residency scheduled throughout the fall and then will return to the stage for select dates in March and April of 2025. Additionally, she is gearing up for her new role as a first-time judge on American Idol alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
