George Birge released his debut single, “Mind On You” in May of 2023 as part of his self-titled debut album. Since then, the tune has only continued to gain momentum within his live shows and most recently earned the Texas native his first-ever No. 1 at country radio. While reflecting on everything he’s accomplished in the past year, Birge credits “Mind On You” for taking his career to the next level.

“I’ve chased this dream forever. I’ve always loved country music and we’ve paid a lot of dues. We rode around in a van and trailer for more than 10 years playing to empty bars and to have people showing up, singing the song back to me…it’s opened the door for getting to create new music. It’s just been my wildest dreams coming true this year,” he told Country Now ahead of the 59th annual Academy of Country Music Awards.

Birge is Feeling “Grateful” For All The Support He’s Received

He went on to thank everyone who has supported him, especially those who have directly played a part in helping him achieve this milestone.

“These last 12 months have been about as cool as I’ve ever experienced, and there’s been a lot of people that worked really hard in my corner to help me get there. So I’m just unbelievably grateful for everybody that dug in and helped me achieve this dream this year.”

Now that all the hard work has finally started to pay off for Birge and his team, he’s not taking a second of it for granted.

“My band gives me a hard time because we got on our first big tour bus this year and the first time we walked in, I kissed the floor of it,” the RECORDS Nashville artist said with a laugh. “I was like, man, I dreamed about you for a long time. So yeah, it’s been pretty cool.”

Watching “Cowboy Songs” Become His Newest Fan-Favorite

Following hot on the heels of the success of “Mind On You,” Birge unleashed his newest radio single, “Cowboy Songs.” Co-written by Birge with Michael Tyler, Lalo Guzman and Matt McGinn, the late-night country anthem was named the most added with 75 stations across the nation adding it to rotation.

Seeing this song come out of the gates at full speed has been incredibly exciting for Birge. He also admitted it’s his favorite song that he’s ever had a hand in writing.

What Inspired The Song?

When asked to share insight into what inspired the song’s catchy narrative, he explained that it’s reminiscent of his early days playing music and watching the crowds in the dive bars of his home in Austin, Texas.

“The Austin that I grew up in was kind of early Austin. We called it the place where the hippies and the cowboys get along. It was dusty dive bars, cash only, and it was just kind of this gritty feel. So I wanted to write a song that captured the energy of one of those kind of nights… I grew up playing sixth street with X’s on my hand at 14 years old, so I’ve lived these nights a lot of times.”

Birge continued to illustrate the storyline that he envisioned in his head when writing out the scenario. “Cowboy walks into a bar, there’s a girl by the jukebox, everybody wants to talk to her, but she’s kind of in her jeans and her boots, hiding in the smoke and nobody really has a chance. She’s kind of dangerous. And I figured that girl only dances to cowboy songs so I wrote a song about her and that’s how it turned out.”

Bringing His New Music On The Road This Summer

This summer, “Mind On You,” “Cowboy Songs” and many other brand-new tracks will get the chance to shine as George Birge hits the road in support of major artists like Sam Hunt, Luke Bryan as well as on his opening gig with Parker McCollum.

“I’m especially excited because we have a huge touring schedule this summer so we’re going to get to go out and play it live along with the rest of my new record all summer and just kind of get to introduce this new music to fans. I’m fired up about this summer. It’s going to be a good one.”

He went on to say he feels “blessed” to have the opportunity to learn and play alongside some of these country music superstars who he has looked up to throughout his career.

This weekend George Birge will bring his catalog to country fans in Alpharetta, GA on Friday, May 31 and Jacksonville, FL on Saturday, June 1. Both shows will take place as part of Parker McCollum’s current Burn It Down Tour.
