Following the release of Scotty McCreery’s Same Truck album in 2021, the country singer has encountered a number of significant changes in his life, the most notable being the arrival of his first son, Avery. These personal shifts are now inspiring McCreery to enter a new chapter of his musical journey, which he’s already begun to tease in live performances and on social media.
On Tuesday, August 8, the North Carolina native took to social media to share a photo that fans are predicting to be the single art for a new, soon-to-be-released song.
The caption also kept his followers guessing as it read, “It’s lookin like my plan didn’t work out at all.”
Fifth Studio Album In The Works
While we may not know exactly what’s coming next, Scotty McCreery has confirmed that his fifth studio album is in fact in motion. He also explained that his recent stint of shows has been used as an opportunity to test the waters on some new tunes that may or may not make it on his next project.
“We got a lot of new music we’re working on,” McCreery told Indiana’s Journal & Courier. “For me, it’s kind of fun to play some songs that might be recorded, might not be recorded. Playing off the crowd, seeing what they think, seeing how their reaction is. It kind of gives us the gauge of what we should record and what the next album should look like. It doesn’t happen every year, because we’re not always making an album, but we’re doing that this year. So it kind of gets to be fun out there doing that.”

Inspiration
Since Scotty McCreery’s time on American Idol, fans have fallen in love with his ability to wear his heart on his sleeve through heartfelt messages inspired by his wife, his hometown and his passion for country music. When it comes to writing and choosing tracks for this next collection of songs, it appears McCreery has continued to find inspiration in his real-life experiences, just as he’s done throughout his entire career.
“For me, I kind of have [four] things: live it, love it, know it, believe it,” McCreery said. “It’s got to be something that I really believe in and love and know about. Some writers are awesome at kind of using your imagination. And if that’s your thing, then go for it. But for me, what I’ve found that works is just writing about my real life stuff. Like ‘Five More Minutes‘ was for my grand-daddy. ‘This It It’ was me and my wife’s wedding song. It’s all these little things that I just try to incorporate into the music.”
With the addition of his newest family member, McCreery says that his listeners can also expect plenty of tunes inspired by his introduction to fatherhood.
“There will be a baby song on my next album, many more, every song has been inspired by him, every song has been influenced by the last six months of raising him,” McCreery shared while previously co-hosting the Country Countdown USA. “It’s a good place to be. I feel I have a lot of ideas and a fresh place to be.”
“It’s Country”
In addition, Scotty McCreery stressed that the album will fully embrace a traditional country sound.
“It’s Country. Our steel guitar player, Mike Johnson, got in the studio with us, and he’s like, ‘Man, I actually get to play Country music this week!’ He was lovin’ it, and I love singing that stuff, so hopefully folks are ready for a good dose of country music,” he shared.
McCreery has yet to share an official release date for his next project, but he did hint that the full-length album could be unleashed sometime later this year with a new single on the way very soon.
“We’ll have a new song out on the radio here, I’d say in the next month or so,” McCreery revealed. “And then a new album early next year, is probably what I think. But we’re working hard on it, and hopefully folks enjoy it when it finally gets here.”
On Tour
Fans will continue to get a taste of the new music through Scotty McCreery’s run of live performances at various fairs and festivals.
He recently wrapped up his time on the road with Brooks & Dunn for the REBOOT Tour and is next slated to perform on August 17 in Lafayette, IN. Later this year, Scotty McCreery will also return to the Grand Ole Opry for Opry Country Christmas.
