Country hitmaker Jimmie Allen made his Dancing with the Stars debut on Monday evening (Sept. 20) and absolutely crushed it.

Ahead of his performance, Allen admitted he was “nervous to death.”

“I dance on stage, but this is a whole different type of dancing,” Allen shared.

The “Freedom Was A Highway” singer revealed that he chose to go on the show to be an ambassador for country music and also because he’s “competitive as hell.”

“He has no ego, he’s just there to work hard,” his partner, dance pro and Season 24 champion, Emma Slater, complimented.

“I’m ready to learn and get my tango on,” Allen added.

The platinum-selling country star performed a Tango with Slater and looked confident and poised as he moved across the dance floor. The pair’s Tango was set to Timberland feat. Keri Hilson’s hit single, “The Way I Are.”

Allen’s pregnant wife, Alexis, cheered him on from the audience.

His performance impressed most of the judges.

“Wow, Jimmie, let me say this dance does not suit your personality,“ Len Goodman said. “You’re a cool sort of guy, relaxed. I’m sure that there’s a lot more talent in there than we saw on that dance floor. You’re going to be loose, you’re going to go a long way. You’ve got great potential.”

“That was an amazing… I don’t know what’s going on tonight, but everyone’s been really, really good,” Derek Hough added. “That was an incredible week one frame, honestly. The one thing I would just say is just keeping consistent because it was good and then every once in a while it would go woo, and it would drop down, but you have it. You know you can do it, you just got to be a little more consistent but great, great tango brother. Great job!”

“You did manage to keep the tango on track but with a few skips along the way,” Bruno Tonioli pointed out. “It’s a very difficult dance because you have to think about it like a stalking cat, there has to be a consistency, an incredible control. There were some good moment, but it was very uneven. So work on it because you could be very good.”

“Jimmie, great job first time out there,” Carrie Ann Inaba said. “Very, very tough dance. There’s a lot of specificity and I think that’s what everybody’s pointing to, but I think you started off… great job.”

Overall, Allen earned a total score of 22/40.
