Kayleigh Mathews took a trip back in time on this week’s episode of The Voice. She dazzled the audience and her coaches with a stunning performance of Patsy Cline’s “Walking After Midnight.”
With images of a moonlit sky and shining stars filling the screens behind her, Kayleigh matched the scenery with her silver sequin jumpsuit that added to the performance’s charm. Her warm, powerful vocals brought a crispness and ease to the mid-tempo tune as she effortlessly captured the sound of the era when the song was first released in 1957.
Taking on a song recorded by one of country music’s most iconic voices is no small feat, but Mathews definitely rose to the occasion. She showcased her impressive vocal range while staying true to the song’s old-school country feel, making for a memorable performance.

Coach Kelly Clarkson expressed her love for Kayleigh’s song choice, and pointed out the unique components she heard in the hopeful singer’s voice.
“You have this beautiful Yodel thing that goes on and your resonance is so beautiful. You just have quite a gift, girl,” she stated.
Then Kayleigh got to hear from her own coach, Riley Green, who had a touch decision to make by the end of the night. Because of the massive elimination ahead, he had to review each performance very carefully.

He made sure to note just how truly “country” her performance was, noting that was the “best compliment” he could give to one of his team members.
“I love too that your voice is so unique and that you’ve got a bluesy kind of thing that you can do at the end of some notes. I just loved everything about it. You’re great,” he stated.
Although Kayleigh Mathews gave a memorable performance, it wasn’t enough to secure an automatic spot in the Live Shows. However, she still has an opportunity to continue competing. During Cut Week, each coach selected two artists from their team to advance directly to the Live Shows. The five remaining contestants then performed for a final spot, which was also decided by their coach.
Green chose to move Cade Mower and Ferryn & Brinkley forward automatically before awarding the last spot to Joe Henley. As a result, Kayleigh’s fate is still up in the air.
With those spots filled, America had the chance to cast votes for one more artist they want to see advance to the Live Top 13. Viewers will find out who makes the cut when The Voice returns with a new episode Monday, November 9, at 9/8c on NBC and Peacock.
