The final performance from a member of Riley Green’s team on Monday night’s episode of The Voice came from Joe Henley, who took on Keith Whitley’s “Don’t Close Your Eyes.”
The Alabama native emerged from the shadows of the bright lights and immediately caught the coaches’ attention with the song’s opening line. His rich baritone vocals brought an emotional depth to the country classic, allowing him to lean into the song’s softer, more delicate moments while capturing the nostalgic feel of the 1988 release.
There were no elaborate production elements to the performance, and Joe didn’t need them. His voice did all the work, earning him the first standing ovation of the night from all four coaches. With the heartfelt delivery, he showed exactly what makes him a country singer to his core.

If there was any time for Joe to use his time on stage wisely, it was Cut Week. This week on The Voice brought the “biggest elimination” in the show’s history. Each coach selected two artists from their team of seven to advance directly to the Live Shows. The five remaining contestants then performed for a final spot, which was also decided by their coach.
At the start of Monday night’s episode, Riley Green chose to send Cade Mower and Ferryn & Brinkley forward automatically, meaning there was still one spot up for grabs.
After hearing the coaches response to Joe’s performance, it’s no surprise that he earned the last spot on Team Riley to advance to the Live Shows.

Kelly Clarkson stated, “From the first notes out of your mouth, that natural style, your natural just tone of your voice is incredible. If you’re not in the finale, I would be mind blown.”
Meanwhile, Green was quick to praise his ability to capture the sound of Keith Whitley on the traditional tune, despite being very early on in his career skill.
“Man, this is so fun because you’re so naturally talented. You haven’t been doing it a long time, but Keith Whitley does some really unique things. And to be able to go and do what he does is really difficult. And you somehow can go do that and then do your own thing. And if I could sing like you…I wouldn’t answer the phone when I have a call. I would be so rich and famous,” Green joked.
He later added that Joe’s performance made his decision “that much more difficult.” So when it came time to decide who would earn that third slot, he couldn’t help but go with the artist who made the biggest impression on him.
“Every performance today was great. I remember when I saw the song that was being done by this person, I said to myself, ‘If this is right, this is who I’m going to have to go with.’ Joe, you crushed it, man,” he said, confirming his decision.
Fans will see Joe Henley return when The Live Shows for Season 30 of The Voice begin on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. During the new episode, viewers will also find out which of the contestants earned the most votes from America to stay in the competition and complete the Top 13.
