Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg have been named as the hosts of NBC’s new series, American Song Contest.
The announcement was made Sunday (Feb. 13) during the Super Bowl halftime show when the promo for the new series aired, according to Deadline Hollywood. The show is based on the Eurovision Song Contest, the outlet also reported.
The European Broadcast Union (EBU) broke the news that the American version of Eurovision Song Contest would be airing on NBC in a press release back in May of 2021. According to the release, American Song Contest will feature performances from contestants representing all 50 states, five U.S. territories, and the nation’s capital. The contestants will perform their own original music to win the title of “Best Original Song.”

American Song Contest will be comprised of three rounds: the Qualifying Rounds, Semi-Finals, and the ultimate Grand Final, where the winner of the show will be decided based on the country’s votes, also according to the EBU release.
Martin Österdahl, executive supervisor of Eurovision Song Contest, commented on the news, saying the following: “For 65 years the Eurovision Song Contest has connected people far and wide. As owners of this hugely successful format, we have seen how it has found a place in millions of hearts across Europe and beyond.”
“Now we are excited to have found the perfect partners to share this unique competition and its passionate celebration of music and original songs with the American people.”
After the promo for American Song Contest aired, Clarkson shared a video of it on her Instagram page.
“Huge announcement y’all!!” she wrote. “I’m so excited to finally share that I’ll be hosting @americansongcontest with @SnoopDogg!! I can’t wait!! Watch the premiere LIVE on March 21st, only on @NBC. [music note emoji]”
Snoop Dogg shared a similar reaction.
“I am honored to host American Song Contest alongside my lil sis Kelly Clarkson, aka Miss Texas,” Snoop said, according to Deadline Hollywood.
Clarkson adds American Song Contest to her previous hosting gig on The Kelly Clarkson Show and her coaching role on The Voice.
Meanwhile, the news of Snoop’s latest venture with American Song Contest follows his performance at the Super Bowl halftime show.
