Kenny Chesney took center stage at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards as the only country artist to perform at the star-studded event. The show returned to Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater on Monday night (March 17), featuring a genre-bending lineup of performers, including Chesney, Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Muni Long, Nelly, and more
Before making his way in front of the crowd, Chesney received the ultimate introduction from his fellow Knoxville, TN native, Kelsea Ballerini. In her latest Instagram post, the songstress revealed that she “got to get all gussied up” to help welcome her “hometown hero and dear friend” to the stage.

Ballerini turned heads in a strapless shimmering black gown with an ab-baring cutout that showed off her slim figure. Once the camera was on her, she began gushing over Chesney and all of his many achievements that have racked up throughout his career. She even noted their deep-rooted connection, which traces back to their parents.
“Kenny started breaking musical ground in 2002 when he made the summer stadium tour a rite of passage. Like me, he is a songwriter from East Tennessee. Like literally, my dad and his mom live five doors down from each other. It’s giving family. He is committed to squeezing all of the joy of life into his 30 plus number ones.”
The focus then turned to Chesney as the stream of blue lights illuminating him and his band mates. The country star, known for his summertime hits, opted to go for his usual performance look with blue jeans, a t-shirt a beachy cowboy hat and boots, the perfect ensemble to pair with his delivery of 2018’s free-spirited anthem, “Get Along.” Positivity radiated throughout the audience as Chesney brought a bit of warmth with the upbeat, nostalgia-laced tune that appears on his 18th studio album, Song for the Saints.

Ross Copperman, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne teamed up to write “Get Along,” with the intentions of encouraging listeners to set aside their differences and find common ground in a world that often feels divided. Chesney celebrated that important message during the iHeartRadio Music Awards, bringing his signature island-country sound to the breezy melody that evoked a sing-along in the crowd.
“Get along, on down the road/ We’ve got a long, long way to go/ Scared to live, scared to die/ We ain’t perfect but we try/ Get along while we can/ Always give love the upper hand/ Paint a wall, learn to dance/ Call your mom, buy a boat/ Drink a beer, sing a song/ Make a friend, can’t we all get along,” he sang on the upbeat chorus.
Kenny Chesney’s performance at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards comes shortly before the launch of his highly-anticipated Vegas residency at the revolutionized live entertainment venue, the Sphere. Opening for the country singer throughout the entire 15-show run will be emerging DJ sensation, Brandi Cyrus.
Catching up with the Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet of the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards, Cyrus shared what she believes fans can expect from both hers and Chesney’s set.
“Kenny is really working so hard to put on such a special show for the Sphere. I think he really wants to make it unlike any other show he’s ever done. And so for him to have a DJ, I think is very different, but something he really wanted and I’m just so honored that he picked me,” she gushed. “I think he’s going to put on an incredible show. I have no doubts, but I personally am working so hard to create a unique set just for the Sphere and just for Kenny Chesney fans, and it’s going to be unlike any other show I’ve played.”
The residency will kick off on Thursday, May 22 and run select dates through Saturday, June 21.
