Megan Moroney hit a major milestone this weekend as she headlined a stadium for the first time as part of her wildly popular Am I Okay? Tour. Just minutes before taking the stage of the Credit One Stadium in Charleston, SC, the night became even more memorable thanks to a surprise backstage visit from her friend and former tourmate, Kenny Chesney.
The heartfelt moment was captured on video, showcasing Moroney standing in front of a bright light decked out in her signature royal blue dress and white cowboy boots, clearly unaware of the man walking towards her. Once the songstress realized that Chesney had made the trip out to celebrate her big show, her face lit up. The “6 Months Later” singer excited screamed his name as the two hugged and then asked, “What are you doing here?”
The text over the video read, “pov: when Kenny Chesney surprises you at the am I okay? tour 5 minutes before you go on stage :,)”

Chesney didn’t just stop at the surprise visit backstage. Later in the night, he also joined Moroney on stage for a powerful performance of their duet, “You Had To Be There.” The pair of artists became friends while Moroney served as a special guest on Kenny Chesney’s 2024 Sun Goes Down stadium tour. As a result of that unforgettable chapter in her career, the Georgia native later gifted Chesney the heartfelt song as a Christmas present.

From sharing stages across the country to offering genuine support behind the scenes, Chesney and Moroney’s friendship continues to shine. In an Instagram post recapping the milestone weekend, Moroney included a photo of a hand-written note addressed to her from Chesney, commending her on the successful show.
He wrote, “Megan you were amazing up there. You outshine everyone by just being yourself!! I love you, Kenny.”

During the same performance on Friday, September 12, Megan Moroney treated fans to a performance of an unreleased song titled “Beautiful Things.” She previously teased the track across social media, but this was the first time she performed the full version live. Before diving into the powerful lyrics, Moroney shared a bit of the story behind the song and the reason she wrote it with her young niece in mind.
“I decided that out of all of my discography, I think if I had to pick a song that I would write to myself, this would also be it. Because I was the girl that in middle school, I didn’t get invited to the party and when I got a little bit older, I couldn’t make the guy love me and stay with me. And I just wish I had a song that said exactly this,” she explained. “And so I think that’s part of the reason why I wrote it for my niece. And I think this song is just a great reminder that we’re all going through something. So just be nice to each other.”

Moroney then noted that “Beautiful Things” is set to appear on her next album. A release date has not been set for the upcoming project.
The Am I Okay? Tour, inspired by the title of her latest project of the same name, continues tomorrow on Tuesday, September 16 with a stop in Independence, MO. A full list of upcoming dates can be found on Moroney’s official website.
