Kid Rock is sharing the inspiration behind his new single, “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King),” marking the beginning of his Christian music era.

In a new video shared to social media, the country/rocker opened up about the song while quoting lyrics that reflect his personal journey, including his struggles, mistakes and renewed faith in Jesus Christ.

“I have wandered through the ages and flipped through all your pages. Every stage of life I’ve run through, I refuse to compromise. I’ve been locked up in your cages, and my sins became contagious. But when I got right with Jesus Christ, I found things that money can’t buy.”

The song’s title references James 1:17, a New Testament verse that states in part, “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”

Later, Rock, 55, explained that the song came to him unexpectedly in the middle of the night and came together remarkably quickly.

“I got out of bed around 2:00 AM one morning and about 30 minutes later I had this song. It’s called James 1:17 (Jesus is King),” he shared.

Rock said the song would be released at midnight, and it is now available to fans. He also teased the upcoming music video, which is set to premiere Thursday evening on YouTube.

“There are some very special people in this video and a real significance to this song and the album to follow over the next few days. I’m going to be sharing a lot more of that with you,” he explained.

The new release comes as Rock continues to open up about the role faith has played in his life and music. The singer, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, has previously teased that he has “a lot of music this next year” after spending time writing songs during what he described as his “spiritual journey.”

“I’m really looking forward to people hearing this. It’s a crazy journey I’ve been on,” he said in August. “I’ve grown a lot stronger in my faith.”

“James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)” also follows a recent milestone for Rock on the Christian music charts. Earlier this year, he scored a No. 1 hit on the Christian charts with his cover of Cody Johnson’s “‘Til You Can’t.” The song reached the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart after Rock performed the cover for the first time on Super Bowl Sunday, when he headlined Turning Point USA’s “All American Halftime Show.”

Now, Rock is preparing to enter a new chapter with his upcoming album, Halfway 2 Jesus. The project will mark his first album since 2022’s Bad Reputation and will continue to explore the faith-centered themes he has been writing about in recent months.

In celebration of his new musical era, Kid Rock has also launched a new line of faith-inspired merchandise. The collection includes a $119 satin jacket featuring “Jesus Is King” across the back, along with “God Is Good” T-shirts priced at $34.99.
