Since bursting onto the country music scene with his debut smash “Hurricane,” Luke Combs has gone on to win over the hearts of country music fans everywhere. He’s shattered records, won a slew of awards and even had a chance to collaborate with some of his heroes.
Country superstar Kix Brooks of Brooks & Dunn is one of Combs’ longtime musical heroes and it appears that the admiration between the two is mutual. Brooks recently opened up about working with Combs and he had nothing but great things to say about the “Beer Never Broke My Heart” singer.
“We love Luke Combs. Anytime somebody’s on a run like he’s having right now and every time you see him, he’s got on a Brooks & Dunn hat or a Brooks & Dunn t-shirt, you can’t help but like the guy,” Brooks recently shared with a laugh, adding, “You know I love Luke’s singing too, I love his off-the-cuff attitude, I love his kind of ‘I’m not worried about this’ approach to everything he’s doing. I think I can kind of identify with it, and it’s great to see that success.”
After Combs appeared on Brooks & Dunn’s Reboot album singing “Brand New Man,” the duo is now joining Combs for “1, 2 Many” on his forthcoming What You See Is What You Get album. Brooks says he and his duo partner, Ronnie Dunn, were happy to return the favor.
“I guess as fate would have it, Luke just said, ‘Hey, turnabout’s fair play,’ and he sent a song over that he’d written and wanted to know if we’d sing on it with him and so we did,” Brooks explained. “It’s a really fun, rockin’ track, something like we might’ve done back in the day.”
Brooks & Dunn and Luke Combs are currently nominated for Musical Event of the Year for the upcoming 53rd Annual CMA Awards. The show will air live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 8/7c on ABC.
