Laci Kaye Booth has unveiled “Daddy’s Mugshot,” a deeply personal track that marks her first new release since her 2024 debut album, The Loneliest Girl in the World.

The introspective story behind track, written by Booth and produced by Ben West, came to the songstress after seeing her father’s mugshot circulating on social media. She was inspired to use her gritty yet authentic storytelling style to create a narrative centered around family and personal struggles.

Laci Kaye Booth says, “I wrote this song after I was scrolling on Facebook and saw my dad’s mugshot going around. I started writing about him, my life, the curse passed down to me and trying to ‘make it’ in Nashville.”

Her dreamy vocals present a mix of vulnerability, resilience and a hint of humor as she depicts on the reality behind her complicated upbringing and the struggle of trying to fit into the Nashville music scene. Within the nostalgic chorus, she admits to feeling “a little too Texas for Tennessee” on her journey through the music industry.

She sings, “Now I’m a little too Texas for Tennesee/ I smiled in the picture/ But I was grittin’ my teeth/ They found bitter in my bones/ When they broke this show pony/ Said I’d be a star/ Hell, they don’t even know me/ What runs in the blood/ Ain’t ever gonna stop/ I might look like my mama/ But I smile like my daddy’s mugshot.”

“Daddy’s Mugshot” was unveiled in the eve of Booth’s Grand Ole Opry debut, taking place in the coveted circle on Saturday, March 29. Last month, the Livingston, TX native was invited to take her career to the next level and perform on the iconic stage during the final night of the first leg of Parker McCollum’s headlining arena tour.

In the midst of McCollum’s set, he asked Booth, his special guest on the run, to join him on stage and showcase the title track to her latest album, “The Loneliest Girl In The World.” To her surprise, in front of the massive crowd at Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids, IA, her fellow Texan native dropped this major news.

“I really do love that song and I wanted you to come up on stage and sing it, but I also wanted to tell you that on March 29, you are being invited to make your Grand Ole Opry debut,” he shared.

A look of shock washed over Booth’s face as she took in McCollum’s words. After taking some time to let the news sink in, she took to social media to share her gratitude.

“I’m so incredibly grateful and honored,” Laci Kaye Booth wrote. “I’ve waited six years in Nashville, and my whole life before that, for this very moment. I can’t believe it’s here. What a beautiful experience, made even more special by one of my favorite artists and Texans, Parker McCollum.”

Following her debut, Laci Kaye Booth will take the stage at the inaugural Sand in My Boots Festival in Gulf Shores, AL, on May 16. Throughout the summer she will also support Megan Moroney on three dates and rejoin Parker McCollum for select shows on his 2025 headline run.
