Reigning American Idol champ Laine Hardy returned to the hit show Sunday evening (May 10), kicking off the second half of the Disney-themed night with Rascal Flatts’ version of “Life Is A Highway.”
The season 17 champ performed the song from the Cars soundtrack from his home in Louisiana.
Hardy recently joined multi-media personality and American Idol in-house mentor Bobby Bones to chat about his return to the show where he admitted he was going to have to put in extra practice for this performance.
“This song, the timing of it, it throws me off,” he admitted. “It’s a little different than what I’m normally singing so it’s gonna take a little practice, but it’s a really good song.”
Hardy has been making the rounds on a virtual tour in support of his two new singles, “Ground I Grew Up On” and “Let There Be Country.”
Sunday’s episode of American Idol revealed the Top 7 contestants and featured the Idol hopefuls singing various Disney tunes such as Little Mermaid‘s “Kiss The Girl,” Cinderella‘s “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes,” and Lion King‘s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” Following Sunday’s show, America will cast votes to determine the American Idol Top 5.
