Lainey Wilson, named an “Artist to Watch” in 2021 by Country Now, recently released a cinematic music video for her Top 30 and climbing single, “Things a Man Oughta Know.”
The clip was co-directed by Sean O’Halloran and Chris Ashlee and is filled with personal elements and close friends. From Wilson’s home, to O’Halloran’s daughter and even Luke Combs’ band member, Kurt Ozan, the music video includes various personal touches. In fact, some of the footage seen was shot right in Wilson’s own kitchen.
From the fans responses so far, going the extra mile with the personal touches, definitely made an impact.
“I hoped that people would connect to this song and it’s been so incredible to see just how strong the reaction has been,” said Wilson in a release. “For the music video, we wanted to create a piece of art where people could watch it and feel something all over again.”

In this song, Wilson lists a few things that she feels a man should know, which includes simpler things, like how to change a tire and how to shoot a shotgun. But, she also talks about more important things to know, such as not letting go of the woman you love and learning how to treat someone right.
As seen in the video, things go from bad to worse as desperation kicks in, ultimately leading to a daughter having to see her father in a bad situation. Even if he had good intentions, the father in the video made some choices that left negative impacts on his family. This is an example of a situation that unfortunately, many have had to experience in one way or another.
“Things a Man Oughta Know” has raked in more than 43 million on-demand streams and was featured Sirius XM’s The Highway’s Top 10 on the Hot 30 Weekend Countdown.
