Lainey Wilson is wearing her heart on her sleeve in her brand-new song, “Kinda Love It,” which tells the story of falling for a bad boy who may be a little more trouble than she bargained for. She wasn’t necessarily looking for an outlaw type, but she can’t deny the connection and decides to follow her heart and see where it leads.
The upbeat pop-country track was written by Wilson alongside John Mayer, Kid Harpoon and Jon Decious. While Wilson’s unmistakable twang and the lyrics keep it rooted in country, the production leans more pop, taking the 12-time CMA Award winner and reigning Entertainer of the Year into new sonic territory. That shift makes sense, with Harpoon, whose production credits include Miley Cyrus and Harry Styles, behind the track.
In the chorus, Wilson acknowledges the risks of falling for someone unpredictable, but she’s willing to take her chances.

“I got a tiger by the tail/ If it goes to hell, oh well/ And if it kills me, no, I ain’t above it/ Yeah, I hate to say it, but man, I kinda love it/ I got a place to keep his boots/ If he ever puts down roots/ I said I wouldn’t, but damn, I went and done it/ Yeah, I hate to say it, but man, I kinda love it,” she sings.
Ahead of the song’s release, Wilson shared, “This has to be one of my favorite days in the writing room.”
The singer also reflected on the creative process behind the track and what it has been like to explore new territory.
“Lately I’ve been walking into the writing room without knowing exactly where we’re headed. Against my better judgment, it’s working,” she shared. “I’ve always loved putting the puzzle pieces together, but I’m learning there’s a lot of fun in letting the song just tell you what it wants to be. Feels like I’m stepping into something new and enjoying the ride.”
The song comes to life in a new music video starring Wilson and her husband, Devlin “Duck” Hodges. In the clip, Hodges takes Wilson for a wild ride around their farm on an ATV as she sings along, holding on for dear life.
“Kinda Love It” follows Wilson’s latest radio single, “Phone, Keys, Wallet,” which features John Mayer on guitar. The song has already climbed into the Top 15 at country radio and continues to move up the charts.
Wilson will also return to host the 60th Annual CMA Awards. She is nominated in three categories this year: Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Single of the Year for “Somewhere Over Laredo.” She recently added another honor to her list of accomplishments after receiving the CMA International Artist Achievement Award.
