Jelly Roll previews his highly-anticipated forthcoming album with another scorching tune titled, “Liar.” Fans first got a glimpse into the power behind these lyrics when he debuted the track live at the 2024 ACM Awards. He went on to showcase the song several more times during appearances on The Voice finale and Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s outdoor block party stage.

Officially available to stream now, “Liar” was written by Jelly Roll, Ben Johnson, Ashley Gorley and Taylor Phillips. The hard-hitting country star’s unfiltered emotions are once again at play as he exposes the devastating effects that addiction can have on one’s mental health. He describes what it’s like to feel the temptations from the voices in his head taking over, encouraging him to continue with the substance abuse when times get tough and to lean on material things all while convincing him that he’s too broken to find love again.

He sings, “I, I let you drive around my mind/ I can’t count the times you made me feel like I’m nothin’/ Played me like a fool/ Like a fool/ Sayin’ drink another whiskey/ Pop another pill/ Money makes you happy/ Heaven isn’t real/ You won’t find nobody to love/ Because your heart’s too broke.”

Attempting To Escape The Toxicity

Although the heaviness of this battle is clearly weighing on him, Jelly Roll finds the power within himself to acknowledge the fact that he’s done getting burned over and over again and he’s ready to rid his head of these poisonous thoughts. The Antioch native’s impressive vocal range is put on display and fueled by the intensity of the tune that’s built by the sounds of soul-stirring guitar riffs, thunderous drum beats and a choir of vocals in the background.

“You ain’t nothin but a liar/ Yeah I walked right out the fire/ Yeah you tried to keep me down/ Tried to put me underground/ But I’m only goin’ higher,” Jelly Roll delivers on the chorus.

In addition to the track release, CMT exclusively premiered the song’s official music video across all platforms including the Paramount Times Square Billboard.

New Album Expected Out Later This Year

This marks the newest track to drop in advance of Jelly Roll’s next album, which is expected to be released later this year. “Liar” follows Jelly’s current Top 20 single, “I Am Not Okay,” which was released in June as the first taste of new music since his record-breaking Country debut album, Whitsitt Chapel. Jelly Roll also recently unveiled his first-ever collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly (MGK), “Lonely Road,” which draws inspiration from the 1971 John Denver hit, “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”
