Cadence Baker has musical talent running deep within her veins and she proved that with her stunning American Idol audition on Sunday, March 13.

Cadence’s grandfather Gary Baker wrote “I Swear,” a chart-topping hit recorded by All-4-One and country superstar John Michael Montgomery, as well as co-wrote Lonestar’s “I’m Already There.” He also was a member of Marie Osmond’s band and owns a recording studio in Florence, Alabama. Her father, Shane Baker is also a seasoned musician, who served as a frontman for several bands.

The 18-year-old from Muscle Shoals, Alabama has been singing since she was just 4 years old and says her grandfather and father are two of her biggest musical inspirations.

“Coming from a musical family, it’s hard to pop out of that shadow,” she explained. “Hopefully the judges see that I am my own artist and that I do have what it takes.”

Cadence truly allowed her musical talent to shine through during her Idol audition with an impressive performance of Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight.”

Joined by her father on guitar, the contestant belted out the lyrics to the Houston hit, which earned a standing ovation and praise from all three Idol judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.

“That was not fair, people come in all the time with guitars. You came in with a professional guitar player and it happens to be your dad and he had such a pocket. I mean, dad giving it like bam, bam, bam. That pocket was so tight and then your daughter just stepped right in the pocket. I loved it,” Richie gushed.

“Yeah, a lot of people come in and go ‘well, I’m going to sing ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight’ by Whitney Houston,’ and in my head, I’m saying ‘alright well see yourself to the door.’” Perry added “That was amazing, It was really good. I think it was even maybe just a little low [and that] you could’ve gone higher. I think you’ve got so much gas in that tank… you got a lot of stuff.”

“[That was] one of the best auditions I’ve seen,” Bryan added, praising her show-stopping performance. “I wrote potentially Top 10 down. Write this day down because it’s a dad-gum special one for me. That was awesome, awesome, awesome.”

Cadence Baker’s Impressive Audition Earned A Golden Ticket To Hollywood

“You’re a star and stars go to where?” Bryan asked his fellow judges.

“Hollywood!” Richie and Perry shouted before the contestant grabbed her golden ticket and Bryan predicted, “she may be the winner of American Idol.”
