Luke Combs had a milestone evening on Tuesday, August 15. On top of celebrating his 5-year anniversary appearance at the Grand Ole Opry, his team at Sony Music Nashville surprised him with five plaques commemorating historic new certifications that have been added to his resume.
The plaque presentation unveiled two diamond certifications for “When It Rains It Pours” and “Hurricane,” which now join his 2023 diamond certification for “Beautiful Crazy.” This feat makes Combs the first artist to achieve three Diamond country singles certified by the RIAA.
Two of his recent projects also gained prestigious recognition at the Nashville event. His 2022 Gettin’ Old album has officially been declared certified Platinum while 2019’s What You See Is What You Get project is now certified 5X Platinum. To top it all offer, Combs’ Grammy-nominated version of the Tracy Chapman hit “Fast Car” was also certified 5X platinum.
Luke Combs’ Opry Journey
The North Carolina native made his Opry debut on October 29, 2016, when he performed a rendition of Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” and his first single “Hurricane.” Just a few years later, on July 16, 2019, he was officially inducted into the beloved Nashville community by his musical heroes, Joe Diffie and Vince Gill.
Last night he stood in that same legendary circle on stage and proved once again that he is a proud member of the Opry family. He performed the heartfelt tune “Remember Him That Way” off his Fathers & Sons project, the blazing “Where The Wild Things Are,” his critically acclaimed version of “Fast Car,” and his contribution to the Twisters: The Album soundtrack, “Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma.”
Combs’ wife, Nicole, was also on hand to help commemorate his latest string of achievements. And of course, the celebration couldn’t be complete without Combs’ very own decked-out Opry cake that he got to cut backstage and share with his family, friends and members of his team. Plus, he received his own hatch print poster honoring the fifth anniversary.
Other artists who appeared on stage last night included Avery Anna, Drake Milligan and Pam Tillis.
Wraps The Growin’ Up And Gettin’ Old Tour
This exciting news comes just a few days after Luke Combs closed out the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour with two final dates in Houston, TX. The “Love You Anyway” singer took to social media to give the trek a proper sendoff by thanking everyone who made this run such a success.
He wrote, “It’s hard to believe but that’s a wrap on the Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour. Houston helped us close out things strong. There are a million people who helped make it happen, so I can’t name them all but without the folks behind the scenes and you, the fans, none of it happens, so thank you. Thank you for continuing to give me the opportunity to do what I love, which is playing live country music for y’all.”
The Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old Tour may have come to an end, but Luke Combs’ time on the road is not finished yet. He still has plenty of shows scheduled through October.
