Just weeks ahead of welcoming his first child with his wife, Nicole, Luke Combs revealed the tearful moment, Nicole told him she was pregnant.
“I don’t think I’ve told anybody about how she told me,” Combs said in an interview with The Bobby Bones Show.
The reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year admitted, “I cried… I cried a lot. Yeah, I was very excited.”
The moment Combs learned he was going to be dad is something he’ll never forget as he says he remembers it “very vividly.”
“it was on the bus, she told me on the bus when it was just me and her on there. I think she had been on a trip with some friends, like a girl’s trip kind of thing,” Combs explained. “It’s like Redneck Napa maybe, I’m not sure, but they went there and I guess she found out on the trip, on that trip.”
With a baby and a new album on the way, host Bobby Bones questioned if Combs’ creative process has changed.
The North Carolina native admitted, Well, it really hasn’t yet too much, because every song that’s going to be on this album was written before I found out, so, there isn’t… I don’t have those Dad [songs on this project].”
While Growin’ Up, which arrives on June 24, won’t include any songs about being a father, Combs isn’t ruling out the dad songs just yet.
“I’m just kind of waiting, like I feel like until he’s born, you know, I feel like that’s going to be the moment, there’s not many songs that about like cleaning out your guest room and buying diaper trash cans and stuff you know,” Combs shared, before Bones chimed in, “I think you could do it, if anybody could though you could.”
“I’d give it a shot for sure,” Combs jokingly replied.
Luke and Nicole revealed that they were expecting in late January.
“Here we go y’all! Lil dude Combs is coming this Spring!” Combs captioned a photo of him and his wife holding a sonogram. “Couldn’t be more excited to start a family with this babe. It’s gonna be a hell of a ride @nicolejcombs.”
Combs’ Instagram post was flooded with congratulatory messages from the country music community.
He recently teased his son’s name during an interview with Audacy Music’s Holly Hutton and Rob Stone at this year’s Tortuga Music Festival in Florida.
“It rhymes with orange,” Combs joked. “It rhymes with purple.”
“You can see there’s a theme going,” Stone said in response.
“There’s a theme going,” Combs agreed, laughing.
In reality, the country superstar said that they have a “short list” of names for their son and that they plan to reveal his name upon his birth.
Combs interview came on the same day as his Middle of Somewhere Tour with Jordan Davis, Morgan Wade and Lainey Wilson was announced. The fall trek kicks off on September 2 and runs through mid- December.
