It’s official! Megan Moroney will release “Am I Okay?,” the title track from her brand-new album, as her next single to country radio.
Announced The News While Opening For Kenny Chesney
The Georgia native shared the exciting news during her stellar support set at Kenny Chesney’s Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour at Nissan Stadium on Saturday, August 3. She later announced that the song will be sent to country radio for adds starting Monday, August 26.
Co-written by Moroney, Luke Laird, and Jessie Jo Dillon, “Am I Okay?” is the title track and opening song from her recently released 14-track sophomore album.
Contrary to what the title suggests, the song is a happy and upbeat track where Moroney describes a positive shift in her love life after meeting a man who “says what he means” and “means what he says,” unlike her previous relationships. She admits to be in disbelief over her newfound love and finds herself wondering if she’s okay because the experience is so different than what she’s been through in the past.
Story Behind The Song
In a recent interview on Today’s Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music Country, Moroney discussed the song’s meaning and revealed it was inspired by a past relationship.
“People are probably going to think it’s going to be a heart-wrenching song, but it’s just not. It’s like you’re actually happy for once and you’re asking yourself, ‘Oh my God, am I okay?,” she shared. “And yeah, that’s how I felt at one time. I think it lasted … I think that when I had hope in a relationship with this guy, it lasted for a month or two until he showed us true colors. But we live and we learn. We got a good song out of it.”
“Am I Okay?” is the first radio single released off the album and follows her recent solo single, “I’m Not Pretty,” from her debut album, LUCKY, and “Can’t Break Up Now,” her collaboration with Old Dominion.
New Album Out Now
The album Am I Okay? was released on July 12 and debuted at No. 9 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. It also soared to No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, making it the fifth-biggest country debut of 2024 and the third-biggest debut of the year from a female country artist, following Beyoncé and Kacey Musgraves.
Produced by Kristian Bush, Am I Okay? doubles down on Moroney’s signature “emo cowgirl” sound and lyricism. The album includes 14 expertly crafted tracks, all written or co-written by Moroney.
Each song draws inspiration from the singer’s life and experiences, from the heartbreak anthem “29th of June,” to the celebratory “Indifferent,” to the introspective album closer, “Hell of a Show.”
Of the project, Moroney shared. “I’ve been saying it feels like a continuation of LUCKY almost, because they’re so close together. Initially I told my label, ’I’ll give you all another album, maybe 2025.’ And then I just started writing, not putting any pressure on a second album because I know there’s always a lot of pressure with your sophomore album. And then it got to a point where I was like, ‘Wait, I have an album.’”
Headlining GEORGIA GIRL TOUR To Launch In September
With just a few more shows with Kenny Chesney on the books for the year, Moroney is preparing to make her way overseas for her 15-date headlining GEORGIA GIRL TOUR. The upcoming trek kicks off in September.
