Megan Moroney made her debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with a performance of “Break It Right Back” from the deluxe edition of her sophomore album, Am I Okay? (I’ll Be Fine).
The multi-platinum hitmaker’s delivery aired Tuesday night on the No. 1 show in late night on CBS. Moroney was seen “dressed to the nines” in a floor-length gown that featured a delicate sheer fabric with intricate embellishments that sparkled under the studio lights. Her ensemble was further elevated by the dramatic, black unattached sleeves that added a bold contrast to the classic style the gown.

This chic look perfectly complimented her performance, which marked her first time showcasing “Break It Right Back” on television. The song, penned by Moroney alongside Ben Williams, David “Messy” Mescon, and Rob Hatch, came to life in front of the live studio audience through the Georgia native’s gritty vocals and captivating stage presence.
The stage transformed into a setting of elegance with dimly lit candles and red silk draped around her bandmates. Moroney held the custom bedazzled microphone up to her mouth and began illustrating the painful journey of realizing the man who she and her family thought was finally going to be Mr. right turned out to leave her with the same heartbreak as everyone else.
Her feelings of disappointment shine through every lyric, allowing listeners to relate to the far too common experience in today’s dating world. While situations like this never get easier, Moroney expresses that she’s gotten used to trusting someone who ultimately lets her down in the end.
“You weren’t supposed to be just like the rest/ You swore up and down that you loved me to death/ Now we’re in my driveway and I’m now your ex/ ‘Cause I’m way too much and you need something less/ Ohh-oh-ohh, why does this happen every time?/ What’s wrong with me? Am I that bad?/ You felt like you had to take my broken heart and fix it/ Just to turn around, turn around/ And break it right back, break it right back,” she sings on the chorus.
As Moroney reaches the song’s final verse, the intensity of her frustration builds, shifting her from a dreary mood to a woman who’s fed up and fully aware that she deserves better than this person.
“So go use your fancy big words at your fancy big job/ Tell your friends how you’re right and how I’m just so wrong/ And how you do it all and I don’t do enough/ How you can’t settle down with a girl that lives on a tour bus,” the “Indifferent” singer continues.

This performance came ahead of Megan Moroney’s two-night run at Radio City Music Hall in New York, taking place on Wednesday (March 26) and Thursday (March 27). Following these shows, her AM I OKAY? Tour will continue with stops at more legendary venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
