Miranda Lambert promised fans she was going to “change it up” on her forthcoming album and that’s exactly what she’s doing.

The superstar just dropped the new track “Mess With My Head” and it’s unlike anything in her catalog. A little pop, a little rock, a little country – whatever it is, it’s good and it’s so Miranda Lambert.

“’Mess with My Head’ is a departure from anything that I’ve done before,” Lambert shared in a release. “It has a real rock edge. Part of that comes from my co-writers, Luke Dick and Natalie Hemby, and the other part of that comes from spending time in New York City. Being there has put a new energy into my music and my writing.”

“Mess With My Head” finds Lambert singing about a new love interest, who came in and disrupted her life. While she seems a bit bothered by it at first, “You treat my mind like a hotel room/ And I know why I gave the keys to you,” she sings, by the end of the song, it’s as if she becomes more okay with it.

“At first it’s like, “I don’t like this,” but the whole thing is a little bit of reverse psychology, the entire song,” she explained to Rolling Stone. “Kind of going with something that you’re not sure is bad for you or not. Or maybe it was bad for you, you thought, and it ended up good for you.”

“Mess With My Head” is the third track released from Lambert’s much-anticipated new album. It follows the previous releases of “Locomotive” and her latest single, “It All Comes Out In The Wash.” There is currently no title or release date set for Lambert’s new album.

The superstar is gearing up for the launch of her all-female Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour this fall. Joining Miranda Lambert on the road are special guests Maren Morris and Elle King, as well as Pistol Annies, Tenille Townes, Ashley McBryde and Caylee Hammack on various dates.
