Nate Smith Achieves Second-Longest Reign Atop The Billboard Country Airplay Chart With ‘World On Fire’
“My mind is absolutely blown hearing the news,” Smith shared.
Nate Smith’s fiery streak on the charts continues as he clinches the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Country Airplay chart for the eighth consecutive week with “World On Fire.”
Since Country Airplay began in 1990, only three other songs have held the top position on the charts for this long, meaning Smith’s “World On Fire” now ties Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night,” Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett’s “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” and Lonestar’s “Amazed” for the second-longest No. 1 chart reign. Additionally, the song hit No. 1 on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart for three weeks.
Fans Had The Song In High Demand
While reflecting on his most recent stint of chart success, Smith told Billboard, “N8 Weeks At No 1. The crazy thing about this song is that it wasn’t even supposed to come out! It was starting to gain a lot of traction on social media and the demand was high.”
Penned by Smith with Ashley Gorley, Lindsay Rimes, and Taylor Phillips, “World On Fire” hones in on the fire theme that has scorched through his catalog since the 2018 Camp Fire in his former home, Paradise, CA, and also serves as a devastating breakup anthem.
“You set my world on fire / Yeah, it’s all long gone / I’m watching flames get higher/ And I can’t move on / I just gotta let it burn, burn, burn on down / Girl, without you it don’t turn, turn, turn around / You set my world on fire / You set my world on fire,” Smith sings on the chorus.
“World On Fire” Appears On The Deluxe Version Of Smith’s Debut Album
In order to feed the fan’s hunger for the song, Smith’s team decided to “strategically release it” as part of the six-song deluxe collection that dropped alongside his debut album, making for a total of 26 tracks. The self-titled collection hit No. 6 on Billboard’s Country albums chart and No. 30 overall on the Billboard Top 200, and spawned RIAA Gold-certified hits “Wreckage” and “Under My Skin.” Additionally, Nate Smith (Deluxe) was dubbed the largest album debut from a new artist in 2023 and the largest full-length debut project from a new artist in 2020.
“This song completely anchored the album,” he continued. “My mind is absolutely blown hearing the news that ‘World On Fire’ has gone #1 for an 8th straight week. Thank you to the fans and thank you country radio!”
This marks the second consecutive chart-topping single for Smith in just a year, following his Platinum-certified, multi-week No. 1 debut single “Whiskey On You.” According to a press release, only 19 songs went No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in 2023, two of which belong to Smith.
With this latest set of feats, the Paradise, CA native now has over a billion total career streams worldwide.. He has also achieved four No.1s on SiriusXM The Highway’s Hot 30 Weekend Countdown: “Whiskey On You,” “I Found You,” “Better Boy,” and “World On Fire.”
