Parker McCollum has been put on vocal rest, causing him to postpone an upcoming stop on his Burn It Down Tour.
The Texas native was originally set to perform in Portsmouth, VA on Thursday, Sept. 19, however per the recent statement shared on his Instagram story, he is following doctor’s orders and taking an extra day of rest.
“It’s with a truly heavy heart that I have to announce we are having to postpone our show for Thursday in Portsmouth, VA. Been having such a damn good time with you all during this tour and I want to keep giving that stage everything I’ve got every night. My doctor has had me on vocal rest the past few days and one more day of rest should mean I’ll be ready to sing by Friday.”
Information On A Rescheduled Date Coming Soon
Hopefully, he will be feeling ready to return to the stage for the remainder of this weekend’s shows, which includes a visit to Simpsonville, SC on Sept. 20 and Orlando, FL on Sept. 21. Those who were planning to attend tomorrow night’s show will receive more information at a later time.
“Orlando and Simpsonville shows will not be affected, and I look forward to seeing you all soon. Details on the new Portsmouth date TBA. Mad love,” he wrote in conclusion.
Burn It Down Tour Continues Through October
Named after his CMA Song of the Year nominated track, the Burn It Down Tour kicked off in April and is set to continue through October 26. He is joined by special guests including Corey Kent, Chayce Beckham and Randy Rogers Band as well as supporting acts like Ashley Cooke, Catie Offerman, Dasha, Elvie Shane, George Birge, Kassi Ashton, Kylie Morgan, Mackenzie Porter, and Tigirlily Gold on select dates.
Once he wraps up the run, he plans to enjoy some downtime at home with his wife, Hallie Ray Light, and their baby boy, Major.
New Song, ‘What Kinda Man,’ Out Now
McCollum’s recent health update follows the release of his new song, “What Kinda Man,” which offers a narrative that takes listeners back to McCollum’s life before he was a husband and father. With his charming baritone vocals on full display, the hitmaker depicts the major shift he felt in his life when he met the woman of his dreams who made him want to settle down and leave his wild days in the past.
“I was never going to get married, never going to have kids…and when I met Hallie Ray, that all kind of changed. I really did feel like, you know, forget the man I am, what kind of man do you need? I’ll do anything. And it was good for me. I needed to clean up my act and she was the one that made me want to do that,” McCollum told Country Now.
Old-School Country Record In The Works
With a sound that pays tribute to his true country roots, “What Kinda Man” gives listeners a glimpse into what to expect from Parker McCollum’s new, yet-to-be-announced album. He explained that his mission of this next record is to go more “old school” and make the kind of music he wants to make.
“I’ve only got two albums left on my first major record deal and I don’t want to look back and go, ‘Man, what if I had dialed it back’ or ‘What if I’d have just gone a little more old school?’ or whatever the case would be in my mind in the future. So I just called Frank and I said, ‘Let’s just go cut a record that is super honest and super raw and nothing fancy,’” he shared.
McCollum did just that, and even if it’s not “commercially successful,” he will be proud knowing he did what he set out to do.
