HARDY and Lainey Wilson received an unexpected surprise ahead of the kickoff of HARDY’s headlining mockingbird & THE CROW Fall Tour.
While hanging backstage in Knoxville, Tennessee, the pair of artists were surprised with plaques commemorating the now platinum-selling hit, “Wait in the Truck.” To celebrate the momentous occasion, HARDY and Wilson posed with the plaques alongside key members of their teams.
The platinum status comes after the song claimed the No.1 spot at country radio this spring.
Platinum-Selling, No. 1 Hit
The superstars released “Wait in the Truck” in August of 2022 and immediately garnered attention from fans and critics alike with its dark storyline and chilling music video.
Co-written by HARDY with Hunter Phelps, Jordan Schmidt, and Renee Blair, “Wait in the Truck” tells the story of a woman who has experienced ongoing domestic abuse. The woman is ultimately saved by a stranger who takes matters into his own hands when he confronts the abusive man and shoots him to death.
With her newfound freedom, the woman ultimately feels torn between feeling relieved and guilty over her abuser’s death.
Music Video
“I don’t know if he’s an angel / Cause angels don’t do what he did / He was hell-bent to find the man behind / All the whiskey scars I hid / I never thought my day of justice / Would come from a judge under his seat / But I knew right then I’d never get hit again when he said to me / Wait in the truck / Just wait in the truck,” Wilson sings, full of emotion.
Following the song’s release, HARDY and Wilson joined forces for several high-profile performances of “Wait in the Truck,” including appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 56th Annual CMA Awards, and CMA Fest on ABC.
Appears On Latest Album
“Wait In The Truck” appears on HARDY’s latest album, the mockingbird & THE CROW, which arrived on January 20, 2023 via Big Loud Records.
The project features 17 songs, including three collaborations: “Wait in the Truck” with Wilson, “Red” with Morgan Wallen and “Radio Song” with A Day To Remember frontman Jeremy McKinnon.
“the mockingbird & THE CROW is, in my opinion, the best thing I’ve made so far,” HARDY previously shared in a press release. “I had a lot of time to get in the weeds making this record with some of my favorite people in Nashville, and it truly captures every part of who I am as an artist. I’m honored that I get to share it with you next year; can’t wait to hear what you think about it.”
The project is half rock and half country and was recorded between Ocean Way and Blackbird Studios in Nashville, entirely produced by Joey Moi with co-production by HARDY and Derek Wells, and co-production on select tracks by David Garcia, Jordan Schmidt, Ben Johnson, Andrew Wade, Jeremy McKinnon, and Cody Quistad.
HARDY co-wrote every single track on the album alongside some of Nashville’s most sought after songwriters, including Ashley Gorley, Rhett Akins, Hillary Lindsey, Jessie Jo Dillon, David Garcia, Hunter Phelps, Jordan Schmidt, and more.
