Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s hot new track, “I Had Some Help,” is breaking records and dominating the charts.
Last week, the song was added to 167 first-week stations at country radio, marking only the second time in history that a single has debuted with the support of all reporting stations (this follows Garth Brooks’ “Long Neck Bottle” which became the first to do so in 1997). It debuted on the charts at No.15 and became the second-highest debut ever, following Brooks’ “More Than A Memory” in 2007.
Additionally, upon its May 10 release, “I Had Some Help” broke Spotify’s single-day country streaming record with 14 million streams and became the No.1 male collaboration debut of all time. The buzzed-about collab also ranked No.1 on Apple Music’s Global Chart and was the top song on Pandora’s Top Thumbed chart.
This week, “I Had Some Help” officially debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking Post Malone’s sixth No.1 debut and Wallen’s second, according to Billboard.com.
On the Hot Country Songs chart, the track opened at No.1 as well, securing Post Malone’s first No.1 and Wallen’s eighth.
Radio insider Chris Owen reports that “I Had Some Help” is currently at No. 9 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, marking the first song since “More Than a Memory” to reach the top 10 on country radio in two weeks or less.
Last week, Post Malone performed “I Had Some Help,” live during the 59th Academy of Country Music Awards. The genre-bending star took the stage sans Wallen to perform this track as well as debut the song “Never Love You Again.” Both are expected to appear on Malone’s debut country radio which is expected to drop later this year.
The artists collaborated with Louis Bell, Ryan Vojtesak, Ashley Gorley, Ernest Keith Smith, Chandler Paul Walters, and Hoskins to write the breakup anthem, which was released after weeks of teasing the song on social media.
They accompanied the release with a music video featuring Malone enjoying a night of karaoke at a local bar after an argument with his partner on a pay phone outside. Ultimately, he is forcefully removed from the bar, where Wallen finds him outside. Together, they end up piling into a pickup truck and doing donuts in a field as fireworks burst overhead.
While Post Malone has yet to share any further details about his highly anticipated country album, last fall, he was seen in the studio with artists such as ERNEST, Luke Combs, and Brad Paisley, and recently teased a snippet of a song with Combs. No release date has been set for the project.
