Fans showed so much love for Randy Houser’s song, “Still That Cowboy” when he released it as the first track off 2022’s Note To Self album, that he decided to recreate it with one of his “favorite female country artists” – Miranda Lambert.
Out now via Magnolia Music Group, the mesmerizing new collaborative rendition of “Still That Cowboy” finds the pair of powerhouse country stars reuniting after years of friendship. The chemistry of their vocals is palpable as they pay homage to a love meant to stand the test of time.
“I’ve always wanted to have Miranda sing on this song because I could hear her voice on it with me,” shares Houser. “She is one of my favorite singers and favorite people, and I’m so appreciative of her lending her incredible talent to it.”
“Randy has been a friend for a long time, yet we’ve never recorded one together,” adds Lambert. “I have loved his voice for forever and am honored he asked me to sing on ‘Still That Cowboy.’”
With a mid-tempo melody cascading across the track, Lambert and Houser let their signature Texas and Mississippi twang shine as the character at hand recounts the heartfelt memories he’s shared with the love of his life lying next to him in bed and hopes that the same thoughts of admiration are running through her mind.
They sing, “Still that cowboy that stole your heart/ Still that right one you chose from the start/ And when the nights get long and the years roll by/ When you wake up and you look at me/ I hope I’m still that cowboy that rode up in your dreams.”
“Still That Cowboy” featuring Miranda Lambert is set to appear on Houser’s album expanded project, Note To Self Deluxe, arriving January 2025. The collection will feature even more collaborations including “Rub A Little Dirt On It” ft. Riley Green, “Country Round Here Tonight” ft. Justin Moore and a yet-to-be announced track with a special guest.
Houser recently joined HARDY for two sold-out performances at Red Rocks Amphitheater, which turned out to be an incredibly full circle and memorable night for him as his son Huck joined him on stage for a cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.”
“Red Rocks was the last day trip my daddy and I took together the day before I took him to the hospital in Denver,” Houser shared. “I was 21 years old and could only dream of getting to play here someday. He knew I would and told me I would. He wanted me to see it so badly. He had just seen Pink Floyd there and it was important to share such a beautiful place for musicians and fans alike. I know he was smiling down as I got to share it with his grandson.”
Next up, he is set to perform at the Downtown Hoedown Concert in Las Vegas on December 4, which serves as the kick-off to the 2024 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Then Houser will then return to Australia for a sold-out solo acoustic show on January 3 before joining Cody Johnson’s Leather Deluxe Tour at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on February 14 and Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam on May 30.
