Reba McEntire’s Boyfriend, Rex Linn, Played a Wild Halloween Prank on Her

Halloween looks a little different for Reba McEntire ever since she started dating actor Rex Linn, who’s a superfan of the day and all the spooky fun it entails. “Halloween is his favorite holiday,” McEntire recently explained to Country Now and other outlets during a virtual press event.

So much so, in fact, that he even plays Halloween-related pranks — and of course, McEntire’s the obvious target for him to choose. “Last year, he ordered from Costco a 7-foot werewolf with a motion sensor in it, and he put it in my bathroom. And when I walked in there, it moved and growled at me,” she recounts.

“And I — I was very upset,” she jokes drily. “I said, ‘Everybody who had anything to do with it, you’re all fired.’ And then I started giggling. And then I was pretty flattered that he went to all that trouble to scare me. And then we took it to every place we could to scare everybody else. We had a blast with it.”

Due to the current times, the couple won’t be having a Halloween party this year, though McEntire says she’s confident that they’ll find some other way to make the day special. “I’ve got no idea what he’s got planned this year, but I’m sure it’s gonna be a lot of fun,” she adds.

But McEntire’s love for Halloween didn’t start with her current relationship; it dates back to her childhood, when she used to go trick-or-treating with her siblings, Susie, Pake and Alice. Of course, trick-or-treating looked a little different for them than it does for many children today, as they grew up in rural Oklahoma without many neighbors nearby.

“Our nearest neighbor was a couple of miles away from us,” the singer recalls. “So we’d get dressed up and put lipstick on, whatever we could. We didn’t have Halloween costumes. And we’d walk down in the dark to [our neighbor’s] house, and she’d made us cookies and milk. And then we’d walk back up in the dark.”

Even back then, the holiday featured a prank at McEntire’s expense. “Alice and Suzie and I weren’t attentive enough to realize that Pake wasn’t with us in the group. And Pake would get up on the road going up to the house and go up a tree and scare the crap out of us,” she adds with a laugh. “So that was my Halloween memory right there.”
