As another year comes to an end, many people took to social media to share some memorable moments they’ve had in the last 365 days. Many chose to highlight both the highs and the lows, including Russell Dickerson’s wife, Kailey, who revealed that they suffered a miscarriage in 2022.

“2022 was incredibly wonderful and heart-wrenching… We saw some of the most beautiful places in the world, some of my favorite places… some big -dream-come-true moments… and had wounds only a handful of people saw and tended to,” she began in her post to Instagram on Saturday (Jan. 21).

The country star’s wife continued to unveil her most vulnerable self as she shared that they lost the baby in September.

“It felt like drowning and trying to swim towards sun to find the surface. I didn’t know if I’d ever share this, but something about going into this next year, I needed to leave this news in 2022. The loss; however, is something that will always be written into our story. I know I’ll share more about it when I’m ready, but for now, and for the last several months, I’m holding these two extra close…”

Kailey ended the post with a bit of reflection on both her experience and the experiences that she has seen other share from 2022.

She wrote, “I have read several recaps from people this year and not one has been perfect. It all came with both beauty and ashes. It gives me hope knowing we are more connected than we think. And it gives me solace knowing nothing and no one’s life is perfect or without pain. May we all give each other some more grace this next year… more kindness because we don’t know what someone is truly going through… more love because we all need it. And may Jesus be near to the broken-hearted. He sure has been for us 🤍”

In a follow-up post, Kailey paired another stunning beach photo with a caption that began with her sharing a bit of gratitude for the reactions she received on her previous announcement.

“I don’t even know where to begin. The kindness and support I’ve seen from my last post has been OVERWHELMING *in the best way,*” she explained before adding, “So many people have walked this road and it feels a whole lot less lonely. I wish none of us were in this club, but here we are, coming together and making beauty from ashes. And it is so, so beautiful.”

The post also included a poem which Kailey explained she wrote the day after suffering a miscarriage.

It read, “My heart beat yours and you were learning to grow / Eyes that would beam and a little round nose / All your ten fingers and all your ten toes / Now running on the streets of gold / Tethered to Jesus, come close to you mother and father / Sing heavenly songs over us and your brother / With no rhyming reasons or answers We’ll know, you my love, had to go / Oh how we long to see what you see / Oh how we long to know what you know / For a moment in time your life was in mine / But you were called up to the great divine / May Jesus hold you till i get to the other side / May he rock you and comfort both you and I / Baby, here or in heaven you’ll always be mine.”

The parents are currently raising their first son, Remington Edward Dickerson, whom they welcomed into the world on Thursday, September 10, 2020. While waiting on Remington to officially make them a family of three, they opened up about their pregnancy struggles at the time.

During a previous interview with PEOPLE, Russell Dickerson said, “It just got to the point where we’re like, ‘Well, if it happens, it happens. It’ll happen when it does.’ It’s all God’s timing on that part.”

When it comes to his music career, the “Yours” singer can proudly say he had a successful year of touring with Tim McGraw and dropping his third full-length album.

He also recently wrapped up the first leg of his headlining She Likes It Tour with special guest, Drew Green, and on February 16, he’ll head back on the road to continue this trek through the end of the month.
