Russell Dickerson’s wife, Kailey Dickerson, took to social media to share their family’s frightening experience during Winter Storm Fern, which slammed Nashville and the surrounding area. The powerful storm left hundreds of thousands without power, downed countless trees, stranded drivers, and claimed at least three lives, according to the latest reports.

Kailey detailed what the family endured as they sheltered in their home, listening as trees and large limbs fell around them throughout the day.

“Spent the day without power with my parents and kids… we couldn’t find our generator—we lost it somewhere in the move to the rental house,” she wrote late Sunday (Jan. 25). “Every few minutes, limbs were crashing on our house. With huge trees surrounding us, we decided to brave the roads and get to my brother’s house with power.”

Later, Kailey shared that the family made it safely to their destination, though the experience left them shaken.

“And my nervous system is coming back down… made it safe,” she wrote. “Pray for the people affected by this storm—it’s bad. Trees and power lines are down everywhere. I don’t endorse driving, but we had four-wheel drive, and fortunately it froze when it was slushy for some traction… but I don’t know about tomorrow.”

She later posted a photo of a fallen tree limb that had taken out the power line to their home.

“This limb came down on the power line to our house, so even if power comes back in the neighborhood, we’d still be out of luck for a while,” Kailey explained. “So thankful for power tonight. Praying for everyone without it, the workers out there, and the unhoused tonight.”

Russell and Kailey wed in 2013 and share two young sons: Remington and Radford.

According to WSMV, Winter Storm Fern is the worst ice storm the Nashville area has seen in years. The system began as snow before shifting to sleet, then freezing rain, and eventually rain—creating the perfect conditions for devastating ice accumulation.

WSMV reports that ice totals in and around the area reached more than half an inch in some locations. As a result, hundreds of thousands of people remain without power.
